PRACTICAL PERIPHERALS INTRODUCES NEW 28.8Kbps MODEM WITH THREE-LINE LCD

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA -- Practical Peripherals introduces its new
ProClass 288LCD V.FAST Class modem at a suggested list price of $429.

Meeting the needs of users who demand maximum productivity from their
communications products, the advance-featured ProClass 288LCD offers data
communications speeds up to 28,800bps and is compatible with other
manufacturers' modems supporting V.FAST Class technology from Rockwell. It
can achieve DTE speeds up to 115,200bps using V.42 error control and
V.42bis data compression, and supports Class 1 and Class 2 14,400bps
send/receive fax.

Its unique vertical design (2.9" wide x 4.2" deep x 6.4" tall) features an
external speaker volume control, three menu navigation buttons (mode, up
and down) for easy modem configuration, 10 LEDs, and a three-line LCD. The
top LCD line displays time of day while the lower lines, each with 12
characters, display over 50 real-time status messages including length of
time on-line, number of data characters transmitted or received per
second, line quality, number of fax pages sent/received and more.

Fully compatible with the industry-standard Hayes AT Command Set, the
ProClass 288LCD's built-in features include synchronous and asynchronous
operation, lease-line operation (2-wire), distinctive ring and telephone
calling card (bong) tone detection, translation of alphanumeric telephone
numbers, and six pages of on-line help in ROM.

All Practical V.FC modems are factory upgradable to the forthcoming V.34
standard for just $89. The ProClass 288LCD comes with WinFax Lite and
Quick Link II Win/DOS data and fax communications software and special
money-saving on-line communications offers from CompuServe, Genie and
America Online. With a similar feature set to the ProClass 288LCD, the
MacClass 288LCD for Macintosh users will ship in May with the new
MacComCenter data and fax communications software.
