Tatung Debuts First PowerPC System at Computex Show in Taipei, Taiwan

Taiwan's Largest Computer and Electronics Company Supports PowerPC
Standard

TAIPEI, Taiwan--June 2, 1994--Heralding a new generation of powerful
RISC-based computing solutions, Tatung Co. today announced its first
prototype system based on the PowerPC 601 microprocessor. Scheduled to
achieve volume production in the fourth quarter of 1994, the TPC-5510 is
targeted towards original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original
design manufacturers (ODMs) in the desktop marketplace. In addition,
Tatung is also designing systems based on the PowerPC 603 and 604
microprocessors, which are expected to be sampling in the fall of '94 with
production in the first quarter of '95.

Tatung's PowerPC systems will support a wide range of operating systems,
including Windows NT, AIX, OS/2. and Solaris. The TPC-5510 will include a
66MHz or 80MHz PowerPC 601 microprocessor and provide upgrade and
expansion support for either the Baby AT or Western Digital form factors.
The Baby AT form factor includes a CPU upgrade/level 2 cache socket, three
33MHz PCI slots and five ISA slots. The Western Digital form factor
includes a CPU upgrade/level 2 cache socket, two 33MHz PCI slots and two
ISA slots.

"The PowerPC's RISC architecture will play a key role in enabling the
Pacific Rim s emerging computing marketplace," said Jerry Huan, general
manager of Overseas Operations Division, Tatung. "We believe these PowerPC
computers will provide a superb price/performance advantage and open
strategy, which will induce add-on and Asia Pacific vendors to develop
products for the PowerPC platform--thereby speeding the maturity of this
market."

Tatung is one of the initial members of the Taiwan New PC Consortium
(TNPC), an organization originated by Computer and Communications Research
Laboratories (CCL) and the Taiwan Electronic Appliance Manufacturers'
Association (TEAMA) to combine the resources of Motorola, IBM and 31 major
Taiwan computer companies for joint development and promotion of PowerPC
systems.

"Support from the largest computer and electronics company in Taiwan
represents the PowerPC's growing momentum and acceptance in the Pacific
Rim," said Les Crudele, vice president and general manager of Motorola
RISC Microprocessor Division. "The PowerPC's advanced family of
microprocessors provides Tatung with exceptional processing power at a
superior price/performance point."

The PowerPC family of microprocessors, jointly designed by Apple, IBM and
Motorola, is designed to address a wide range of computing requirements
from portable and desktop computers to midrange workstations and servers,
to multi-processing, fault-tolerant and supercomputing systems. PowerPC
microcontrollers also will be used for embedded control applications in
automotive and consumer products.

The PowerPC family will provide the most pervasive software support of any
microprocessor in the industry. Among the operating system environments
supported by PowerPC are Apple's System 7, IBM's AIX and OS/2, as well as
DOS, NetWare, PowerOpen, Solaris, Taligent, Windows and Windows NT.

Established in 1918, Tatung is currently the largest computer and
electronics company in Taiwan. Employing approximately 26,000 workers,
Tatung manufacturers more than 300 product lines, including home
appliances, industrial equipment, consumer and industrial electronic
products and components, and information products. Tatung has been
Taiwan's number one supplier for information products since 1989. These
products include SPARC workstation, personal computers, notebook PCs,
terminals, color monitors and keyboards. The company currently maintains a
worldwide network of offices in Europe, United States, Canada, Thailand,
Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, Korea and Japan.

Having 1993 worldwide sales of $5.7 billion, Motorola's Semiconductor
Products Sector is the largest U.S.-based broad line supplier of
semiconductors. with a balanced portfolio of more than 50,000 devices.
Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless
communications, semiconductors, and advanced electronic systems and
services. Major equipment businesses include cellular telephone, two-way
radio, paging and data communications, personal communications,
automotive, defense and space electronics and computers. Communication
devices, computers and millions of consumer products are powered by
Motorola semiconductors. Motorola's 1993 sales were $17 billion.
