Motorola Announces PowerPC 601 Design From ISG Technologies, Inc.

Parallel-processing accelerator board furthers PowerPC microprocessors'
ability to provide greater efficiency to imaging equipment

AUSTIN, Texas--June 6, 1994--Motorola's RISC Microprocessor Division today
announced that ISG Technologies, Inc. will develop its Pulsus line of
parallel-processing, supercomputing-class hardware accelerators on
Motorola's PowerPC 601 microprocessor. ISG Technologies develops and
manufactures visual data processing applications and imaging systems.

The PowerPC 601 is the first high-performance RISC microprocessor to bring
together the exceptional computational power of a superscalar RISC
architecture with the low-cost, high-volume production associated with the
PC market. The family's superscalar processing capability--which enables
the microprocessors to execute multiple instructions simultaneously--is
particularly valuable to visual data processing systems.

"The processing power of the PowerPC family of microprocessors has unlocked
the efficiency of Pulsus for medical imaging systems," said Les Crudele,
Vice President and General Manager, Motorola RISC Microprocessor Division.
"The PowerPC 601 microprocessor with its multi-processing features enables
Pulsus to achieve supercomputing class performance."

Pulsus uses a Symmetrical Multi-Processing (SMP) architecture. A single
Pulsus system with 8 to 32 high-performance PowerPC 601 microprocessors
tightly coupled to a high resolution display can perform both the
number-crunching and visualization on acquired data.

The PowerPC 601 microprocessor features 2.8 million transistors. It is
manufactured using a .6 micron complementary metal-oxide semiconductor
(CMOS) process. The chip includes an advanced bus interface that supports
a range of computer systems, from handheld, portable and desktop
computers, to midrange workstations and servers as well as fault-tolerant
and supercomputing systems.

"We have selected the PowerPC 601 microprocessor because of the suitability
of its bus interface for SMP applications, its high floating-point
throughput, its large 8-way set-associative on-chip cache and its low
power consumption," said ISG Technologies' Vice President of Research and
Development, Doron Dekel. "These characteristics allowed us to cram 8
microprocessors and 256 Mbyte of shared memory into each self-contained
processing board. This, in turn, allowed us to achieve high levels of
price/performance for such systems."

ISG Technologies Inc., with headquarters in Toronto, Canada, operates
directly in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and the Pacific Rim. It is a
leading developer of hardware and software-creating tools, components, and
turnkey solutions to enable its original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
partners to bring better medical imaging products to market more quickly
and economically. ISG Technologies is a publicly traded company with
common shares listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange [symbol - isot] and on
Nasdaq [symbol - isgtf].

Having 1993 worldwide sales of $5.7 billion, Motorola's Semiconductor
