"RasterOps has always been viewed as the industry leader in accelerated
24-bit color technology by Macintosh users, and Truevision has gained a
well-deserved reputation for quality and performance in the PC market. We
think new customers will draw the same conclusions alter seeing our
ColorImpact line," said Mick O'Rourke, vice president of marketing for
RasterOps. "The price points we're achieving, combined with our
technology, support, and installation software make the ColorImpact line a
winner from every perspective."

"ColorImpact represents an aggressive move into the PC graphics market by
RasterOps. The limited lifetime warranty and support are outstanding,
while the memory module upgrades and the auto-install capability make life
a lot easier for end-users. Both the boards use strong chip designs, and
the price points are very competitive," said Dr. Jon Peddie, President of
Jon Peddie Associates (the leading authority on graphics board technology,
based in Tiburon, Calif.)

ColorImpact 100:

The ColorImpact 100 is a 64-bit graphics accelerator designed for the
cost-conscious Windows user seeking excellent performance and support
without compromise. The ColorImpact 100 is available in PCI, VLB and ISA
configurations, and all three versions are customer upgradable from 1MB to
2MB with the addition of a standard 72-pin 1MB SIMM.

A unique feature of the ColorImpact 100 is its auto-install capabilities; a
user simply plugs the board into the PC, inserts an installer disk and
types "install" at the A: prompt. The auto-install program will then copy
the selected drivers into the correct subdirectories, bring up Windows,
and verify the installation.

Another major benefit of the ColorImpact 100 is its field-installable
memory upgrade path using industry-standard SIMMs (single in-line memory
modules) as opposed to individual chip installations. These SIMMs are
widely available through mail-order and retail outlets and the ColorImpact
family are the only mainstream graphics cards using in-line memory module
technology for upgrades This eliminates the chance of bending pins and
mismatched chip speeds that are typically associated with DRAM
semiconductor upgrades.

The ColorImpact 100 incorporates the latest-design graphics chip from
Cirrus Logic, and includes highly-optimized drivers for Windows, AutoCAD
and OS/2 for maximum performance. In addition, every ColorImpact 100 also
ships with control panel software for changing bit-depth, resolution, and
to adjust vertical frequency without accessing the Windows setup
function.

The ColorImpact 100 modes of operation are highlighted in the following

In its 1 MB configuration, ColorImpact 100 supports a maximum of 16.7
million colors at 640-by-800 resolution. Upgraded via industry-standard
DRAM SIMMs to 2MB, ColorImpact 100 supports a maximum of 16.7 million
colors at a resolution of 800 by 600. ColorImpact 100 offers a maximum
non-interlaced resolution of 1280 by 1024 with 256 colors (8-bit mode).

ColorImpact 100 incorporates a 24-bit DAC (digital-to-analog converter)
which supports 16.7 million colors. A standard VESA feature connector is
also provided for interface to other boards, such as a video decoder. In
addition, ColorImpact 100 is fully Energy Star compliant.

ColorImpact Pro 1000:

The ColorImpact Pro 1000 represents the high-performance graphics solution
of the ColorImpact line, offering VRAM-based performance for applications
ranging from CAD and desktop publishing to multimedia project design.

The ColorImpact Pro 1000 is a no-compromise design that provides
extraordinary 64-bit acceleration based on a state-of-the art Weitek Power
9100 and is available in both VLB and PCI versions. The Pro 1000 includes
the same innovative auto-install functionality as the ColorImpact 100, in
addition to the same set of optimized drivers and control panel software.

ColorImpact Pro 1000 comes with 2MB of VRAM soldered on the board and can
be upgraded to 4MB of VRAM using two 256K x 32 VRAM DIMMs (Dual In-line
Memory Modules). Pro 1000, like the ColorImpact 100, incorporates an
in-line memory upgrade strategy and represents the first announced design
from any peripherals or motherboard manufacturer to use the new VRAM
DIMM.

The Pro 1000 is capable of displaying a maximum resolution of 65,000 colors
at 1600-by-1200 resolution, with a maximum 24-bit capability (16.7 million
colors) at 1024-by-768 with full acceleration. Other resolutions and color
capabilities of the ColorImpact Pro 1000 include:
