SAMSUNG ADDS TO ITS LINE OF HARD DISK DRIVES

June 28, 1994 -- Ridgefield Park, NJ -- Samsung Electronics America (SEA)
is now shipping two new hard disk drives (HDD), the SHD-3211A and
SHD-3212A, with formatted capacities of 213MB and 426MB respectively. The
new 3.5-inch disk drives have an IDE interface and they can be used with
power management systems in "Green PCs" via an AT command set.

Jeff Edelstein, Senior Product Marketing Manager for HDD, said, "Our parent
company, Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd., has focused its energy and
resources on becoming a key supplier of high performance hard disk drives
(HDD). We have the capabilities to develop new disk drive products at a
rate that is very close to the pace set by the industry leaders. We
continue to make strides in one of the fastest moving and rapidly changing
segments of the personal computer marketplace.

"Samsung has built a solid foundation to support its growth in the hard
drive business. The company has an ISO 9001 certificate for the design and
production of HDD products. Our plants continue to increase their product
yield rates and we are raising our monthly output of units. Later this
year, the company will start shipping larger capacity hard drives with
SCSI interfaces."

Model SHD-3211A (213.4MB) is a single-disk hard drive with two data
surfaces and two read/write heads. The formatted capacity is 106.7MB for
each surface. There are 2,570 cylinders per surface and 55 to 95 sectors
per track. The average seek time is 13ms.

Model SHD-3212A (426.8MB) is a dual-disk hard drive with four data surfaces
and four read/write heads. The formatted capacity is 106.7MB for each
surface. There are 2,570 cylinders per surface and 55 to 95 sectors per
track. The average seek time is 13ms.

These two new models join Samsung's family of hard disk drives which
includes:

Model SHD-3122A (251.9MB) has four data surfaces and four read/write heads.
The formatted capacity is 63MB per surface. There are 47 to 79 sectors per
track and the average seek time is 16ms.

Model SHD-3172A (356.8MB) has two disk platters, as well as four data
surfaces and four read/write heads. The formatted capacity is 89MB per
surface. There are 56 to 96 sectors per track and the average seek time is
13ms.

The dimensions of each Samsung hard disk drive are 1" H x 4" W x 5.75" D.
Each unit weighs 1.2 pounds and the form factor is 3.5". The drives all
have 512 bytes per sector and the MTBF is rated at 250,000 Power On
Hours.
