INTEL ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR IBM's OS/2 FOR SMP

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 28, 1994--Intel Corporation today announced
support for IBM's release of OS/2 for Symmetric Multiprocessing. "OS/2 for
SMP provides users of multiprocessing systems based on Intel CPUs a
high-performance and reliable environment, scalable from the high-end
desktop to workgroup and enterprise servers," said Ron Whittier, Intel
senior vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Labs
(IAL).

OS/2 for SMPs multithreading capability coupled with the powerful Pentium
processor architecture brings a new level of performance to
compute-intensive applications such as graphics, desktop publishing,
database and client/server applications.

"In addition, Intel is pleased that IBM incorporated support for the
MultiProcessor Specification v1.1 into OS/2 for SMP. With this support,
OS/2 for SMP will broaden the choice for MP operating systems and provide
users more cost effective solutions", Whittier added.

Developed by the Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) in cooperation with system
manufacturers, BIOS suppliers, and operating system vendors, the
MultiProcessor Specification v1.1 (MP Spec v1.1) makes it easy for system
manufacturers to build multiprocessor systems based on Intel CPUs that
support ready-to-run MP operating systems such as OS/2 for SMP. Currently,
over 30 system manufacturers and all major BIOS and operating system
vendors are developing MP Spec-compliant products. As they become
available, these products will provide the users with greater choice and
flexibility in choosing the right MP solutions for their computing needs.

Intel the world largest chip makers, is also a leading manufacturers of
personal computer, networking, and communications products.
