AST ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR IBM OS/2 SMP

NEW YORK, June 28, 1994 -- AST is pleased to have partnered with IBM on the
development and testing of OS/2 for Symmetric Multiprocessing and
anticipates making the product available to its customers during AST's
first quarter. AST was the first major PC developer of a symmetric
multiprocessor machine based on PC technology with its AST Manhattan SMP
and had early involvement with IBM to ensure compatibility and performance
criteria for this important operating system.

"We are moving into testing the final code of OS/2 for Symmetric
Multiprocessing on our Manhattan SMP and will be characterizing the
product over the next month," said Scott Smith, AST's vice president and
general manager of server products. "We expect to be able to ship OS/2 SMP
to meet customer demand on our Manhattan SMP shortly thereafter."

The Manhattan SMP is designed for high availability, scalability and
performance, features that are inherent to success in mission-critical,
multiprocessing environments.

"IBM's commitment to the multiprocessing market, coupled with a product
such as the AST Manhattan SMP multiprocessor, will drive the
ever-increasing progress of enterprise-wide SMP solutions for the 90s,"
said Smith.
