SOFTWARE PUBLISHING UNVEILS HARVARD SPOTLIGHT

Offers New Solution for Electronic Presentation Delivery

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 6, 1994 -- Software Publishing Corporation today
announced Harvard Spotlight for Windows, a new software application that
enables users to organize, rehearse and deliver their existing electronic
presentations more effectively. The product is designed to work with
leading Windows-based presentation graphics packages, including Harvard
Graphics, Microsoft PowerPoint and Lotus Freelance Graphics.

"We are continually hearing feedback from our users that they are looking
for a tool to help them deliver more effective presentations," said Irfan
Salim, president and chief executive officer of Software Publishing.
"Harvard Spotlight is one of the first Windows software solutions that
specifically focuses on what happens after a user has created a
presentation. Early feedback from our customers indicates that this
product will redefine the way people deliver their electronic
presentations and make them more effective presenters."

According to an independent study conducted by Systems Research Corp., a
New Jersey based market research firm, 34 percent of today's presentation
graphics users are opting for electronic screen shows to deliver their
business presentations. This study was commissioned by Software Publishing
and included more than 600 users of Harvard Graphics, PowerPoint and
Freelance Graphics. In a similar study conducted by Software Publishing in
1992, only 14 percent of people were using electronic presentations as
their output media.

Delivering More Effective Presentations

Harvard Spotlight is specifically designed to help presenters control the
flow and delivery of electronic presentations. The product is built around
the concept of a customizable Presentation Desktop, or "control panel,"
displaying up to seven windows suited to a user's own specific needs.
While the audience is viewing the current slide in a presentation, the
presenter can monitor and control any of the following information:
Current Audience Slide, Presentation Notes, Next Slide Preview, Timing &
Pacing information, Slide Locator view, and VCR-style Navigation Bar.

One of the key innovations in Harvard Spotlight is the Slide Locator, which
lets presenters jump to a specific slide during their presentation. This
ability to change the order of a presentation on-the-fly cannot be
accomplished using the screen show capabilities in any of the leading
presentation packages. It also eliminates the disruptive shuffling of
overheads and fastforwarding through slide carousels that is commonplace
in presentations.

Another unique capability in Harvard Spotlight is that users actually see
their notes onscreen while delivering an electronic presentation. As
presenters move from slide to slide, their Presentation Notes are
automatically associated with the Current Audience Slide and highlighted
in a different color for easy reading, replacing handwritten cards or
pre-printed speaker notes which can be distracting for presenters.

Harvard Spotlight also offers Timing & Pacing tools to help plan the
overall flow of a presentation. Users can set the time for an entire
presentation and automatically distribute those times across individual
slides, or they can set times on an individual slide-by-slide basis. An
onscreen Ahead/Behind fuel gauge flags presenters if they are either too
far ahead or behind in a presentation. Users also have the option of
displaying a timing gauge depicted by a sliding bar that starts out as
green, then gradually turns yellow as time runs short, and finally turns
red as the presenter exceeds the allotted time.

Additional Tools for Organizing & Rehearsing Presentations

Harvard Spotlight also offers a variety of tools to help users organize and
rehearse their presentations. Last-minute changes are made in the Slide
Manager, where users can rearrange the order of their slides, delete or
hide certain slides, and add or modify transition effects. The product's
Find Slide capability lets users quickly locate a specific slide in a long
presentation through a keyword search.

In addition, Harvard Spotlight lets users run Practice Sessions and compare
their times against the original time allocated for a presentation. The
product automatically keeps track of how much time was spent on each slide
and compares it to the pre-set times. Users can record and save several
practice sessions and then select the best time to use as the future
timing for their presentation.

Working With The Leading Presentation Packages

After creating their slides in any of the leading presentation packages,
users convert their presentations with Harvard Spotlight's automatic
capture capability. The product captures presentations created in Harvard
Graphics 2.0, Microsoft PowerPoint 4.0 and Lotus Freelance Graphics 2.0.
Harvard Spotlight also lets users manually capture any full-screen image,
such as a spreadsheet or document, and include it in their presentation.
Organizations with multiple presentation graphics standards that use a
common corporate template also benefit from Harvard Spotlight, since it
allows them combine and reuse slides from all the leading packages.

Helping the Presenter Along the Way

Since Harvard Spotlight is a new concept for delivering electronic
presentations, the product has been designed to include the same
state-of-the-art usability found in Harvard Graphics 2.0. The product
includes Quick Looks, the innovative interactive chart miniatures and
other visual cues found in Harvard Graphics 2.0 that help users complete
tasks in as few steps as possible by previewing available choices.

In order to help people with the actual art of presenting, a built-in
Advisor provides a variety of tips on how to give more effective
presentations. The company's AdviceLine phone-in service has also been
expanded and now offers customers more information on how to improve
presentation delivery for maximum audience impact.

Alternative Ways to Deliver Presentations

In addition to providing support for the user who gives stand-up
presentations, Harvard Spotlight also offers several new ways for people
to deliver information more effectively throughout an organization. With
Harvard Spotlight, users of PowerPoint and Freelance Graphics can now
benefit from the Conferencing capabilities currently offered in Harvard
Graphics 2.0. Conferencing lets users give a presentation on up to 64
computers simultaneously over an existing network. Viewers participate in
the presentation using the SPC Conferencing Player included in Harvard
Spotlight. Harvard Spotlight also lets users package and send a
presentation file to someone who was not able to attend the actual
presentation. For e-mail distribution, Harvard Spotlight supports VIM and
MAPI protocols.

Pricing, Availability & System Requirements

Software Publishing anticipates that Harvard Spotlight will ship in the
June/July 1994 timeframe for a three month introductory price of $99.
After October 1994, the suggested retail price will be $129. The product
will offer a 90-day money-back guarantee, and 30 days of free technical
support (from the first call).

The product requires a 386 or higher IBM-PC or compatible; 4 MB of RAM; 6
MB hard disk space; 16-color VGA or higher display; and Windows 3.1. For
on-screen presentations, the product includes a serial cable that connects
two computers so that the Presentation Desktop can be viewed by the
presenter, while the audience sees the current slide. Users can also
separately purchase a third-party dual-output VGA card that will send
signals to two separate monitors.
