PowerGraph Pro PCI Accelerator Provides Superior Graphics Performance

64-bit PCI graphics accelerator offers unsurpassed performance; provides
16.7 million colors at resolutions as high as 800-by-600

Richardson, Texas (June 1, 1994)--STB Systems, Inc., today announced the
release of a high-performance, 64-bit, PCI Local Bus graphics accelerator
card based on the S3 Vision864 video controller/accelerator chip. The
PowerGraph Pro PCI brings the benefits of cost-effective DRAM-based GUI
acceleration to the high-performance graphics market, a field that
typically has been served by more-expensive VRAM-based solutions.

Powerful 64-bit GUI Engine Delivers More Than 36 Million Winmarks
The S3 Vision864 video chip integrates a 64-bit GUI engine, 64-bit internal
data paths and a 64-bit frame buffer interface. This next-generation chip
more than doubles the speed of its predecessor, providing higher
resolution, deeper color and multimedia capabilities. These capabilities
are critical because compound documents, which seamlessly combine text and
graphics, are becoming more common every day. The bandwidth available in
the 64-bit Vision864 will also give users the ability to integrate other
media elements, including imaging and motion video into their documents.

Incorporating the S3 Vision864 controller chip and the S3 SDAC with
dual-clock generator, the PowerGraph Pro PCI delivers performance that
exceeds 36 million pixels per second, according to tests STB performed
using the latest industry benchmarks using a Gateway 2000 90 MHz Pentium
system.

"Graphics- and image-rich applications have made PCs easier to use," said
Robert Hoskins, marketing communications manager for STB Systems, "but
these packages virtually require some sort of graphics acceleration to
provide acceptable screen performance. Factors that drive the need for
improved GUI accelerators are the migration to higher-resolution displays
and greater per-pixel color depth.

"The PowerGraph Pro PCI provides much better performance than other
currently available 64-bit graphics accelerators. We designed the new
adapter to be extremely flexible and offer multiple performance options
for mid-range PCs, higher-end PCs and video-based multimedia
applications."

Most Advanced DRAM-Based GUI Accelerator

STB's use of the powerful 64-bit S3 GUI engine makes the PowerGraph Pro PCI
the industry's most advanced DRAM-based solution for optimal speed and
performance under Windows and other GUI applications. The PowerGraph Pro
PCI is the first DRAM-based accelerator card with a 64-bit internal data
path in place of the typical 32-bit internal architecture. Because the S3
Vision864 is connected directly with the PCI Local Bus, the PowerGraph Pro
PCI can provide the high bandwidth and transfer rates which effectively
eliminate data bottlenecks. The PowerGraph Pro PCI supports a bandwidth
that exceeds 200 megabytes per second, twice the bandwidth possible with a
32-bit architecture. The result for users is top graphics performance.

The PowerGraph Pro PCI provides hardware GUI acceleration features such as
bit block transfers (BitBlt), linear addressing, pattern fills, hardware
cursor and color expansion. The direct connection with the PCI Local Bus
is supported by an on-board BIOS which eliminates the need for external
bus-interface logic that other solutions use to interface with external
ROMs. STB's approach decreases component count and costs, and it meets the
single-load requirement of the PCI bus specification.

64-Bit DRAM Interface Provides Non-Interlaced Graphics Without
Interleaving

The PowerGraph Pro PCI has a 64-bit direct connect frame buffer interface
that provides the high display refresh rates required for non-interlaced
graphics. The 64-bit architecture thus eliminates the cost and complexity
associated with interleaving.

Supplied with two megabytes of fast, cost-effective DRAM, the PowerGraph
Pro PCI provides a wide range of display resolutions and colors. In
non-interlaced mode the new graphics accelerator displays up to 16.7
million colors at resolutions of 640-by-480 and 800-by-600, up to 65,536
colors at 1024-by-768, and up to 256 colors at 1280-by-1024 and
1600-by-1200. Each resolution mode up to 1280-by-1024 supports refresh
rates as great as 75 Hz; the 1600-by-1200 mode has a 60 Hz refresh rate.
These high-color and true-color modes are appropriate for applications
that use photo-realistic images and require acceleration in SuperVGA
resolutions.

The PowerGraph Pro PCI ships with high-performance drivers that provide
maximum compatibility with a variety of popular Windows, Windows NT, OS/2,
Solaris and SCO Open Desktop applications, and a custom Panacea Turbo DLD
for AutoCAD 12.

The new GUI accelerator includes a VESA-compatible feature connector that
permits the use of other add-in boards, such as video overlay boards and
video capture boards. The PowerGraph Pro PCI is compatible with VESA
Display Data Channel Level 1 (DDC1).

"Green PC" Power Management

Also included with the PowerGraph Pro PCI is PowerStar, a Display Power
Management Signaling (DPMS) utility supported in the BIOS. PowerStar meets
the VESA specification for reducing a monitor's power consumption to less
than 30 watts when it is not in use. The utility has four power-usage
modes: maximum, standby, suspend and off. Maximum mode is active when the
monitor is on. The first power-down places the monitor in standby mode,
which blanks the monitor's screen but keeps its red/green/blue electron
guns active and ready to fire. The second power-down places the monitor in
suspend mode, which reduces power consumption below 30 watts and is
comparable to turning the monitor off. Modes are controlled through a user
interface that operates much like a screen saver's. Users can define the
amount of time that elapses before each mode is activated.

The PowerGraph Pro PCI graphics accelerator is available in single and bulk
quantities from computer distributors, resellers and retail locations
worldwide. The PowerGraph Pro will be demonstrated at STB's booth #826 at
PC Expo in New York, June 28-30. STB plans to begin shipping samples in
July and volume quantities in August. The suggested retail price of the 2
MB PowerGraph Pro PCI is $299.00.

Lifetime Warranty and Technical Support

STB backs the PowerGraph Pro PCI with a lifetime warranty, the longest in
the industry. Technical Support is available via a toll-free hot line at 1
(800) 234-4334, via a 24-hour BBS at (214) 234-9615 and on CompuServe at
GO STBSYS.
