SUNSOFT ANNOUNCES INCREASED SUPPORT FOR MS-WINDOWS AND MS-DOS APPLICATIONS

Enhanced Wabi and New Merge Products Introduced; Solaris Now Supports
MS-Windows, MS-DOS and Macintosh Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 5, 1994 -- SunSoft, Inc. today introduced Wabi
1.1, an enhanced version of its popular Wabi technology which enables
users to run Microsoft Windows applications on the Solaris software
environment without compromising performance. SunSoft also introduced
Merge for Solaris which offers MS-DOS application support for the Solaris
x86 software environment. In addition to MS-Windows and MS-DOS, Solaris
also will support Macintosh applications through the Macintosh Application
Environment (MAE) offered by Apple Computer. The three products, shown at
the third annual Solaris Developer Conference being held in San Francisco
this week, create a complete PC-Macintosh desktop environment for Solaris
SPARC and Solaris x86-based systems.

"Wabi and Solaris offer users the best of both worlds," said Jim Billmaier,
SunSoft's vice president of product marketing. "Users today need the power
of an enterprise-computing platform like Solaris on which they run their
businesses, but also want to keep using their favorite MS-DOS and MS
Windows spreadsheets and word processing programs. With today's
announcement, Solaris becomes the solution of choice for integrating
mission-critical applications and personal productivity solutions on a
single desktop."

Wabi 1.1 offers significantly enhanced stability and reliability and will
be shipping in volume to customers before the end of April 1994. SunSoft
is extending its special co-packaging promotion through August 31, 1994,
offering Wabi free of cost to new Solaris customers.

SunSoft today also introduced Merge for the Solaris x86 and INTERACTIVE
UNIX software environments. SunSoft Merge, based on advanced technology
from Locus Computing Corporation adds MS-DOS application support to the
existing line of PC application interoperability products already
available to Solaris users. These products include Wabi 1.1 and the
Macintosh Application Environment. The new software includes the following
features:

- Works with MS-DOS 3.3 or MS-DOS 5.0 as well as
  Novell's DR-DOS 6 and MS Windows 3.0 or 3.1.

- Comprehensive graphics adapter support for MS-DOS and
MS-Windows applications including CGA, EGA, VGA, and Hercules.

- Combines the UNIX file systems of Solaris and INTERACTIVE UNIX
with the MS-DOS file system so that users can access files from
either operating environment quickly and easily.

Merge for Solaris x86 and INTERACTIVE UNIX will be available within 90 days
at a price of $295 for desktop/single user versions and $495 for
multi-user/server versions.

The Macintosh Application Environment is a software operating environment
which runs native, off-the-shelf Macintosh 680x0-based applications on
UNIX workstations. With the MAE software, a user can run an X Window
desktop with the major functions of a Macintosh environment -- including
the graphical user interface, consistent with a Macintosh computer
look-and-feel, advanced file-handling capabilities and the ability to cut
and paste between applications. The Macintosh Application Environment for
Solaris is available from Apple Computer, Inc.
