SUNSOFT INTRODUCES NETWARE COMPATIBILITY FOR SOLARIS

Solaris Now Premier Applications Server for NetWare LANs

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--April 5, 1994--SunSoft today introduced a new suite
of products that establishes Solaris, the industry's leading 32-bit UNIX
operating environment, as the applications server of choice for NetWare
LANs. This new product suite delivers to NetWare users the key benefits of
the powerful Solaris environment including access to large-scale,
mission-critical applications, symmetric multiprocessing and superior
scalability. This means that IS managers can leverage Solaris to extend
their capabilities beyond the simple file and print services provided by
NetWare today, without making changes to their existing NetWare clients.

The first product in the suite, IPX/SPX for Solaris, was introduced today
before a crowd of more than 2,000 Solaris developers, customers and OEMs
at the third annual Solaris Developer Conference being held this week in
San Francisco. Other products planned for delivery later this year include
NetWare-compatible server services for Solaris and NetWare-compatible
client services for Solaris.

"IS managers are frustrated with NetWare's limitations as an applications
server for large-scale, mission-critical applications," said Jim
Billmaier, vice president of product marketing at SunSoft. "SunSoft is
solving this problem by giving NetWare users access to the full power of
Solaris and the broad set of business applications now available for it.
Now they can become full-fledged citizens of the corporate network with
access to information residing on larger systems located anywhere in the
organization."

The new products introduced today, complement a broad line of
PC-integration solutions already offered by SunSoft including: PC-NFS, the
industry's leading TCP/IP-based networking solution for Windows and MS-DOS
environments, and the recently introduced SolarNet, the first TCP/IP
networking software package that allows administrators to manage large
numbers of Windows- and DOS-based PCs from a single desktop.

New Product Capabilities

IPX/SPX for Solaris -- Makes the robust application services of Solaris
available to NetWare clients without any change to the users existing
client environment. NetWare clients now get the benefits of transparent
access to large-scale, mission-critical business applications running on
the Solaris environment. IS managers can offer their users secure, highly
available and reliable data, while enjoying the benefits of scalable,
multiprocessor system support of remote systems administration and system
scalability across SPARC and x86 architectures offered by the Solaris
environment.

NetWare Server -- Will provide NetWare users with full NetWare-compatible
file and print services on Solaris without any change to the users
existing NetWare desktop. System administrators will now be able to
leverage the highly available data services, gain access to very large
disk subsystems and take advantage of the automated administration
capabilities of Solaris.

NetWare Client -- Will allow users who prefer the power and flexibility of
the Solaris environment on their desktops to access resources on native
NetWare servers. This will enable Solaris desktop and NetWare desktop
users to easily share information stored on existing NetWare servers. This
technology also fulfills SunSoft's commitment to the Common Open Systems
Environment (cose) initiative.

Pricing and Availability

IPX/SPX for Solaris, shipping in the third quarter of this year, is priced
at $395 and will be available on Solaris 2.3 and future versions of
Solaris for x86 and SPARC.

NetWare server services for Solaris and NetWare client services for Solaris
will be available by the end of the year. Prices will be available when
the products ship.

To date, SunSoft has shipped 1.6 million units of the Solaris environment,
making it the world's leading UNIX product. At present, nearly 8,800
32-bit applications are available for the Solaris environment.
