TAPEDISK Version 6.2 introduces
PSM - Personal Storage Management.

Improved performance, Crash Guard, support for Hewlett-Packard DAT
autoloader.

New version fulfills the storage requirements of today's storage hungry
desktop applications

June 28, 1994 -- TAPEDISK Corporation, announced at PC Expo in New York
City today, TAPEDISK software has been updated to version 6.2. The new
version, which is just completing beta testing, adds significant features
and improvements to the existing DOS based tape driver software that
"...makes tapes work like disks!" As part of the release of this new
version, TAPEDISK will also ship a special version of WindoWasher software
from Micah Development. The improved performance and new features of
version 6.2, along with WindoWasher, introduces Personal Storage
Management (PSM) to desktop computing by using SCSI tape as a dual storage
medium: secondary storage as well as a backup storage.

The two most significant features of version 6.2 are the Crash Guard
feature which insures data integrity and the addition of the Micah
Development tools. Crash Guard recovers lost tape data caused by power
failures, system crashes, or inadvertent program termination. Improvements
in performance include faster file copy and xcopy.

Other new features include DOS driver letter reservation, scheduled backup
or archiving, and optional support for the Hewlett-Packard C1553A tape
autochanger.

According to Roy S. Ostenso, CEO, "This new version puts TAPEDISK in the
forefront of the PSM arena."

TAPEDISK Corporation is the first company to offer PSM as a storage
solution for desktop computing. While others vendors have focused on using
tape for HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management) for networks and network
servers, TAPEDISK version 6.2 uses low cost tape storage to provide
personal storage management for workstations and stand alone desktop
computers. The three principles of PSM are:

  1) All data should not remain on a hard drive.
  2) All data should be backed up.
  3) All data should be easily accessed.

TAPEDISK software fulfills all three principles because it turns a SCSI
tape drive into a random access tape drive. The tape drive works just like
a disk drive. Infrequently used files can be moved to tape without giving
up accessibility. Unlike HSM solutions, files do not have to migrate back
to the hard drive before they can be accessed. With tape being the least
expensive media, secondary data storage is now affordable for workstations
and stand alone desktop systems.

The addition of WindoWasher makes selecting which files should be moved
from the hard drive to the SCSI tape drive very easy. This Windows-only
application, analyzes file usage over a selected period of time, and
allows the user to select and copy/move a file or group of files to the
tape. These files can be directly accessed from the tape, since there is
no need to restore files to the hard drive when using TAPEDISK.

Complete hard drive backup can be done interactively or scheduled for a
later time. After a hard drive crash, the user can immediately re-boot
from a floppy disk with the TAPEDISK driver installed. Now the tape drive
has an active file system for quick access to files and program execution.
Files and applications are no longer locked on the tape waiting for a new
hard drive. This is a significant benefit for small office or home
computing where only one system is usually installed.

The optional Hewlett-Packard C1553A autoloader driver is priced at $750.00.
It satisfies more advanced storage management requirements by providing
access to any of the six tapes loaded in the autochanger.

TAPEDISK Corporation plans to begin shipment of Version 6.2 in 30 days.
Suggested retail price is $249.95. Current registered users can upgrade
for $100.00. The upgrade is free to users who purchased the current retail
version on or after June 1, 1994.

TAPEDISK software is a Hewlett-Packard "JetStore Referenced Solution", and
supports the complete HP Jetstore line. Other SCSI DAT, DDS-2 DAT, 8MM and
QIC tape drives from Exabyte, Tandberg, Colorado Memory Systems, WangDAT,
WANGTEK, TECMAR, Mountain, Conner Peripherals, SONY, and many others are
fully supported.

TAPEDISK Version 6.2 requires an 80386,80486 or Pentium-based PC, MS-DOS
5.0 or higher, a 1 00-percent-compatible ASPI device driver and SCSI
controller, 4.0 - 8.0 Mb of system memory with 500 Kb - 4.0 Mb of
available for EMS memory.

TAPEDISK software is sold in the USA directly by TAPEDISK Corporation, by
the Programmer's Shop and by leading VARs and Retailers. Outside the USA
TAPEDISK is sold by leading computer distributors: Borsu UK, Hantz &
Partner In Germany, D & S Sarl in France, PACEN Pty in Australia, Arrow
System International in Taiwan, Vitek in Denmark, Stebis in Holland.
