TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES FIRST NOTEWORTHY CELLULAR-READY DATA/FAX MODEM

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- May 4, 1994 -- LVCC Booth #514 -- The Computer Systems
Division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) today
announced its first Noteworthy cellular-ready modem offering ultimate data
reliability and throughput via cellular connection. The Noteworthy
cellular-ready modem will allow mobile executives and field professionals
to conveniently use their cellular telephones to send and receive data at
speeds comparable to landlines.

The Noteworthy cellular-ready modem allows the user to access information
efficiently without the need for searching for a hardwired telephone line
for data transfer. "In a typical application, a sales representative can
download, via the Noteworthy cellular-ready modem, up to the moment
pricing and product specifications from the corporate database and fax a
revised quotation to a prospective customer from any location, whether he
is in an automobile or in an airport," said Steve Lair, vice president of
marketing for Toshiba's Computer Systems Division.

Another example is where an executive in an airport can answer E-mail, fax
a copy of a revised contract to a strategic partner, and then log onto an
on-line service to review stock quotes and headline news stories through
the use of the cellular modem.

"Toshiba is committed to providing today's mobile user with the latest in
communications technology," said Lair. "The Noteworthy cellular-ready
modem will maximize personal productivity and efficiency by making fast,
reliable data throughput available over cellular systems, addressing the
productivity needs of mobile professionals."

Toshiba has included the latest cellular modem technologies in the new
Noteworthy modem including the newly developed Throughput X-Cellerator
(TX-CEL), from Celeritas Technologies, Ltd., ETC 1.0 and MNP-10 standard
cellular protocols. TX-CEL is a significant cellular modem firmware
technology that improves data and fax transmission performance over
cellular systems regardless of the error correction protocol used. "The
user can now transfer data three times faster than previous technologies,
cutting down costs of transmitting data over cellular lines," Lair
continued.

Noteworthy cellular-ready modem users can send and receive fax data up to
14,400 bps at V.32 bis achieving effective data throughput up to 57,600
bps with V.42/V.42 bis. Other features include Auto Line Setup which
automatically detects the type of connection switching modem setup between
cellular and standard phone lines. The modem's standard setup is for
landline use. For an additional fee, an optional direct connect cable is
available for popular cellular phones.

Expected to ship at the end of the month, the Toshiba Noteworthy
cellular-ready modem carries a suggested retail price of $369 and is
compatible with all Toshiba portables that implement a PCMCIA Type II
expansion slot. These include the Portege T3400 subnotebook series; the
T1910, T1950, T4700C and T4800CT notebook series; the T6600C mobile
multimedia portable series; and the Dynapad T200 pen computer series. The
product is available through Toshiba authorized dealers and by calling
Toshiba Accessories at 1-800-959-4100.
