Maxmedia TV Brings Computer Images To The Big Screen

Compact, Portable Scan Converter For Multimedia Presentations On The Road

June 1994 -- Fremont, CA -- UMAX Technologies, Inc. (UTI) announces
Maxmedia TV, an external scan converter for IBM compatible and Macintosh
computers. The introduction of Maxmedia TV demonstrates the company' s
continuing commitment to expand the multimedia product line introduced
earlier this year. Maxmedia TV allows users to transfer any image
displayed on a computer monitor to a large screen TV, or to a VCR for
"video publishing."

Never again will two or more people have to "hover" over a small, low
quality laptop LCD. "The Maxmedia TV is a high-quality presentation
solution for anyone giving demonstrations on the go," states Jim Chandler,
Product Marketing Manager for UMAX, "With a laptop and the Maxmedia TV in
a briefcase, full screen presentations are just seconds away." Even
computer games are much more engaging and colorful when seen on a big
screen.

Maxmedia TV provides exceptional video quality. Still images, text,
graphics and motion video appear clearly due to a proprietary "Flicker
Resistor" technology, which eliminates the irritating flicker commonly
associated with computer images on television. Employing a six-line memory
buffer to provide stability, Maxmedia TV's image quality is significantly
better than other two or four line buffer scan converters. As a result,
the audience can comfortably watch the screen without eye strain or
irritation from on-screen flickering.

Maxmedia TV delivers a high quality video signal through the use of "VGA
pass-through" technology. The VGA signal is split -- one being converted
to NTSC or PAL scan rates for TV display; the other passing directly
through Maxmedia TV to the computer monitor. This design maintains the
quality of signal to the computer monitor even when a television is
connected. Unlike many existing devices, the computer display may remain
on, even when Maxmedia TV is turned off. As a result, there is no need to
disconnect and connect cables when switching from TV to computer display.

An external switch allows Maxmedia TV to comply with either NTSC or PAL
standards, thus insuring high quality video wherever the presentation may
take place. Maxmedia TV is tuned to the NTSC "peak to peak" standard,
thereby eliminating the distortion that occurs with other scan converters
when vertical lines are displayed. As a result, the video image quality is
better than that of non-standard products.

Another key feature of the Maxmedia TV is its user-friendly installation.
For Windows systems at 640x480 standard resolution (for NTSC), or 800x600
(for PAL), no installation of additional software drivers is required.
Also Maxmedia TV's external design makes it a simple "plug and play"
solution. Users simply connect the Maxmedia cable into their VGA card,
then connect the computer monitor and output device to the Maxmedia TV to
have a simultaneous big screen and monitor display. This design is
compatible with all VGA display cards. For Macintosh users, a Macintosh
converter to VGA is also included for simple installation.

Maxmedia TV comes bundled with PC software utilities for underscan,
overscan, color phase and image positioning. In addition, hardware
adjustments for brightness, contrast, and color control are also provided.
Maxmedia TV supports composite and S-VHS video, as well as RGB and VGA
output. The Maxmedia TV has a list price of $299 and is scheduled to ship
at the end of June.

System requirements include: an IBM compatible computer, Windows 3.1 or
higher, a VGA or Super VGA card, and an NTSC/PAL TV with AV connector,
(with RCA composite, S-VHS video or RGB connector). Macintosh computers
utilize the VGA converter to display images to NTSC or PAL devices.
