Breakthrough Software Released for Bankers, Traders, and Financial
Analysts

Wolfram Research Ships the Mathematica Finance Pack

May 23, 1994 -- CHAMPAIGN, Illinois--Wolfram Research, Inc., the developers
of Mathematica, today released a revolutionary new tool designed
specifically for traders, investment analysts, portfolio managers, and
others in the financial community. The Mathematica Finance Pack, a
powerful and easy-to-use computation and visualization system, helps
finance professionals perform a wide variety of activities- such as
analyzing numerical and statistical data, optimizing mathematical models,
displaying data graphically in two and three dimensions, or creating
animations.

The Finance Pack is a collection of specialized Mathematica tools designed
to solve problems in areas such as interest rates, bonds, cash flows,
options, finance calendar functions, and others. The Finance Pack
introduces finance professionals to the Mathematica environment with
examples and tools they can use right out of the box to increase
productivity.

"An increasing number of portfolio managers, commodities traders, and
bankers have made Mathematica a major part of their competitive arsenal,"
explains Prem Chawla, chief operating officer, Wolfram Research.
"Mathematica gives users an edge over competitors by giving them an
easy-to-use tool for mathematical modeling, financial engineering, and
quick analysis of investment decisions. Often Mathematica can mean the
difference between a successful and a not-so-successful strategy."

The Finance Pack has many practical examples of how Mathematica can be used
to solve realworld problems. It provides tools needed to compute values
and sensitivity measures for various finance instruments including bonds,
cash flows, and options. Mathematica programs and functions in the Finance
Pack take into account both flat rates and term structure of interest
rates. Also included are examples of how Mathematica can be used to
compute the Markowitz efficient portfolio function, moving averages, and
finance calendar functions. Mathematica source code for all these
functions is included so that users can extend or modify them to fit their
own needs.

Mathematica in Finance

Mathematica has become an essential tool among finance professionals around
the world. Many of today's leading bankers, economists, traders, financial
analysts, and portfolio managers use Mathematica regularly. Mathematica is
currently used at major financial institutions such as Lehman Brothers,
Inc., UBS (Union Bank of Switzerland) Securities, J.P. Morgan Securities,
Merrill Lynch, The World Bank, and the Chase Manhattan Bank.

The Mathematica Applications Library

The Finance Pack is part of Wolfram Research's growing Mathematica
Applications Library, which consists of Mathematica-based material from
Wolfram Research and Mathematica developers. Various packs are designed to
help users apply Mathematica right out of the box to solve specific
technical, business, or engineering problems.

Price and Availability

The Finance Pack is available for Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, and the X
Window System (for Sun SPARC, Sun Solaris, DEC RISC, HP 700 Series, IBM
RISC System/6000, and Silicon Graphics computers) and is priced at $395.
Mathematica Version 2.2 is required to make full use of the materials in
the Finance Pack.

The Finance Pack is available from Wolfram Research and resellers
worldwide. To order, customers may call 1-800-441-MATH in the U.S. or
