Ziff Announces First Computer Industry Partners for Interchange Online
Network

24 Leading Hardware and Software Companies Turn to Next-Generation
Publishing Platform for Technical Support and Customer Relations

PC EXPO, New York City, June 28, 1994 -- Ziff-Davis Interactive (ZDI), the
online publishing division of Ziff-Davis Publishing, today announced that
24 leading computer hardware and software vendors have signed on as
Industry Partners for the Interchange Online Network and will be hosting
"Companies Online" areas on Interchange's computing special interest
service. Available nationwide later this year, Interchange is a new online
information service and next-generation publishing platform that
Ziff-Davis, The Washington Post, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, Starwave
Corporation and many other kinds of publishers are using to build powerful
new collections of online content catering to people with special
interests. The first special-interest area, the Interchange computing
service, will be developed by Ziff-Davis for people with a serious
interest in computers.

The 24 companies are charter participants in the Interchange Industry
Partners Program, which was announced in mid-March. The Industry Partners
Program provides hardware, software and networking products companies with
simple yet powerful ways to reach, support and service personal-computer
users by publishing information on Interchange. As part of the Industry
Partners Program, the companies receive design, training and consulting
support in developing their online areas.

The following companies are the first to develop Companies Online areas on
the Interchange special-interest computing service: Arcada Software, ATI
Technologies, Berkeley Systems, Cheyenne Software, Corel Corporation, Dell
Computer Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, Distinct Corporation,
Gold Disk, Hercules Computer Technology, Kingston Technology Corporation,
MAXIS, NEC Technologies, Powersoft, Practical Peripherals, QLogic
Corporation, QMS, Qualitas, Saber Software Corporation, Software
Publishing Corporation, Stac Electronics, Toshiba Computer Systems
Division, Western Digital and WordPerfect Corporation. Announcements of
additional Companies Online partners are expected in the near future.

Companies Online areas enable these companies and others to deliver a wide
variety of information, including: software updates, such as drivers,
patches, utilities and templates; marketing materials, such as press
releases, product reviews and online catalogs; technical support
materials, such as technical tips, frequently asked questions and lists of
authorized training centers; and discussion forums where customers can
exchange ideas with company representatives and other members. In addition
to Companies Online, the Interchange computing service includes
comprehensive content from Ziff-Davis magazines, InfoWorld Publishing
Company and other leading publishers of computer-related information.

"These charter members of our Companies Online program cover the spectrum
of products sought by professional and personal users of computers, and
are a great addition to our computing service," said Lee Phillips, vice
president of industry marketing at Ziff-Davis Interactive. "By
establishing Companies Online areas, these companies will reduce their
support and training costs, build and sustain customer loyalty, attract
new customers and create ongoing dialogs with their customer communities
that will pay off in many other ways. For product vendors, Interchange
provides an incredibly rich online publishing platform that lets them
deliver information and connect with customers in ways not possible
before. Through our Industry Partners Program, we're also providing
editorial tools and technical support so companies can develop their

and cost effectively."

The Interchange Online Network

The Interchange Online Network has the advanced architecture and editorial
tools that enable Ziff-Davis and all kinds of publishers, including
hardware and software companies, to build powerful content that for the
first time fully exploits the online medium. Interchange is built around
rich documents that tie together formatted text, graphics, images and
links, allowing companies to create content areas that are graphically
imprinted with their own distinct tone and style.

Developed by Ziff-Davis Interactive, the Interchange computing service is
the first of many special-interest information services being developed on
Interchange. The computing section features comprehensive information on
buying, using, supporting and understanding personal computers. While
developing Companies Online areas, companies can take advantage of
Interchange' s universal linking capabilities to build links to related
Interchange content -- for example, product reviews and technical support
advice in Ziff-Davis online magazines or comparative product review
grids.

Software, hardware and networking products companies interested in
developing Companies Online areas may call Chris Gwynn at 617-252-5567 or
Pat O'Brien at 617-2525176. Companies Online areas will be built and added
to Interchange continually, on a first-come, first-served basis. All other
publishers interested in publishing on Interchange may contact Bruce
Thurlby at 617-252-5427, and companies interested in advertising
opportunities on Interchange may call Leslie Laredo at 617-252-5283.

The Windows version of Interchange will be available in late 1994. A
large-scale early release program (ERP) involving tens of thousands of
members will begin mid-year and will offer free membership while the test
program is in place. Those interested in applying to the ERP may call
1-800-595-8555. Space may be limited.
