ZyXEL ANNOUNCES ENHANCED NETWORK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM SOFTWARE

New York, N. Y., June 28, 1994 -- ZyXEL, a leading supplier of high-speed
voice/fax modems and compatible products, today announced ZyView 2.4, a
Microsoft Windows-based Network Management System (NMS) software that
allows network managers to monitor up to 4,096 local and remote modems
from a single PC.

Key features within the new ZyView version 2.4 include topology menus,
real-time alarms, and busy-out capabilities. In combination, the new
features allow a network manager to see an alarm on the topology screen,
click on an icon to bring up the window containing the modem alarm, and
view a status bar at the bottom of the window to isolate the linking
problem.

"ZyXEL enhanced its software in response to requests from network managers
who are managing critical modem applications over local area and wide area
networks from a single site," stated Gordon Yang, vice president of
engineering for ZyXEL. "Now with ZyView 2.4, they have a central site from
which to manage these complex modem-based networks."

ZyView Designed For Large Corporate Modem Applications

ZyXEL designed the ZyView software specifically to service large, multiuser
data communication environments. The software displays at-a-glance control
and monitoring functions for the ZyXEL rackmount modem cards and
transmission links. In addition, it automatically tracks the performance
of the total modem network without interfering with data traffic. ZyView
can provide data for network managers to generate statistic and asset
accountability reports, including line usage over time, network
activities, modem status and line impairments.

Managing remote modems requires a proprietary secondary channel which is
implemented in the software for sending and receiving control commands and
messages. The secondary channel is completely isolated from the main
channel ensuring it will not interfere with data communications. ZyView
operates in direct connection with the ZyXEL rackmount system or over
dial-up/leased line modems.

Topology Menus

Topology menus, part of the new enhancements found in ZyView 2.4, use
powerful embedded graphic resources that support multiple maps. This new
feature allows network managers to configure global or local sites on
demand. Through the call-back security and password protection features on
a ZyXEL modem, network managers can authorize access and usage of ZyView
2.4, allowing only network managers to add, delete, modify and save
network topology configurations. ZyView 2.4 provides eight predefined
network topology maps and automatically configures each node by
positioning an icon on the map.

Real-Time Alarm Functions

Network managers are now supplied with real-time alarms that detect and
automatically notify network managers via an alarm if a modem in the
network fails. In the Windows screen, sixteen clear and concise
status/alarm icons provide managers with the ability to verify any faulty
modems at a glance. In addition, special target function bars are provided
to allow network managers the ability to view and control target modems
selected on the screen, maintain the alarm database, perform
troubleshooting and control audible alarm generation.

Busy-Out

Busy-out is a fault management capability within ZyView 2.4 that will
automatically reroute incoming calls to another modem on the rackmount
system when pre-configured conditions have been met This feature is useful
for network managers that utilize the Hunt Group sequence.

Pricing & Availability

ZyView 2.4 will be available in July. Companies currently using a ZyXEL
Rackmount System can purchase the companion software at the suggested
retail price of $700. Current ZyView users can upgrade to version 2.4 free
of charge.
