AIWA BEGINS DELIVERIES OF WORLD'S FIRST AUTOMATED TAPE BACKUP STORAGE
SYSTEMS

AIWA AL-D210 and AL-D220 AutoLoaders will help businesses cost-effectively
meet their growing server storage needs while eliminating the need for
additional administration.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, June 20, 1995 -- Asserting that more and more
businesses require cost-effective tape backup storage systems, AIWA
AMERICA, INC.'s Computer Systems Division today announced that it has
begun delivering two revolutionary computer-network products that
completely automate nightly tape backup operations -- including automatic
tape insertion, removal and tape rotation of 17 tape cartridges. First
unveiled in February, the new AIWA AL-D210 and AL-D220 AutoLoaders, are
being demonstrated at PC Expo, at Booth #3060 in the Jacob Javits
Convention Center.

"The nationwide availability of the first two AIWA AutoLoaders brings a new
level of superior quality cost-effective tape backup storage to a wider
audience of businesses than ever before possible," today stated Nario
Nagano, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, AIWA Computer Systems
Division.

Compatible For Use With All Major Network Servers:

Designed to work with network servers supporting Novell Netware, IBM OS/2,
Windows NT, Unix, and Macintosh, the AIWA AL-D210 and AL-D220 AutoLoaders
automate the repetitive nightly backup procedure while eliminating human
error and reducing management costs. The AL-D210 is a SCSI-based
autoloader with a single tape drive that's based on Digital Data Storage-2
(DDS-2) 4 millimeter technology. The AL-D220 features two tape drives that
deliver increased data transfer. In order to attain the maximum capacity,
17 cartridges may be used. Each AIWA AutoLoader contains a total of 17
cartridges: 16 data cartridges and 1 cleaning cartridge.

Falling Prices Spur Demand For Storage That's Affordable:

According to Nagano, the price of information storage continues to fall,
dramatically expanding the market for server storage solutions that
include affordable tape backup systems - exactly the market addressed by
the new automated AIWA AutoLoaders. "As server storage rises, tape backup
becomes an extremely critical component of a complete solution. Unless the
tape backup functions are automated, their cost to companies will rise
each year. Very soon, stand-alone (nonautomated) tape backup will cost
more in administration than the hardware it supports!"

Reinforcing that point today, Rich Bruklis, AIWA Computer Systems Division
Product Manager, noted that, "One MIS manager for a major insurance
company recently told us that he had to come into the office on Saturday
to switch backup tapes so that the backup could continue over the weekend.
The central idea behind the new AIWA AutoLoaders is to eliminate the need
to manually switch tapes, label tapes, and handle individual tapes. The
AIWA AutoLoader doesn't forget! It automatically starts backups and
switches tapes." What's more, according to Bruklis, studies indicate that
human error, and not hardware failure, is the most common cause of data
loss.

Both AIWA AutoLoaders Are Priced to Drive Market Growth:

In announcing market availability of the AIWA AutoLoaders today, Nagano
emphasized that pricing had been set to help expand the market's size.
"Our goal is to place as many units as possible into the field and we
believe our pricing will result in this happening very quickly." The AIWA
AL-D210 Single Drive AutoLoader carries a suggested retail price of
$6,995.00. The AIWA AL-D220 Dual Drive AutoLoader carries a suggested
retail price of $8,995.00.
