Leading PC Hardware and Software Vendors Support New PCI-based Power
Macintosh

Industry Standard Architecture Sparks New Publishing, Technical and Media
Authoring Solutions on Macintosh

CUPERTINO, California--June 19, 1995--Underscoring its strategy of
embracing industry standards and attracting a wide variety of leading PC
and Macintosh hardware and software vendors to the Macintosh platform,
Apple Computer, Inc. today detailed a fresh wave of developer support for
its latest Power Macintosh system.

The Power Macintosh 9500, featuring the potent new PowerPC 604 processor
and the PC industry standard PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) bus,
arrives with strong support from a catalogue of more than 750 native Power
Macintosh applications, thousands of Macintosh and Windows applications,
as well as a new suite of PCI-based products from leading PC and Macintosh
vendors. This combination provides customers with new solutions in areas
such as digital video production, communications, client/server computing,
enterprise computing, data acquisition, pre-press and high-speed
networking.

This combination of technologies provides customers in markets such as
publishing, technical and media authoring with significant performance
gains and greater access to customized personal computing solutions.

"Apple has continually been at the forefront of technological innovation.
This leadership position combined with strong customer demand and great
products, have been the fuel for the expanding support from the developer
community," said Howard Lee, senior vice president of Apple's Macintosh
Systems division. "With the outstanding new capabilities of the second
generation Power Macintosh, combined with PCI, the solution possibilities
are impressive. Everybody wins--Apple, our hardware and software
developers, and most importantly our customers--who can now choose from a
variety of native applications software and industry standard PCI hardware
solutions to create the most customized, individually tailored solutions
they require."

"The new PowerPC 604 processor, combined with the PCI bus, makes the Power
Macintosh an even more robust development platform," said Dave Pratt,
senior vice president and general manager of Adobe Systems' Application
Product Division. "Together, Adobe's innovative graphics solutions and
Apple's leading-edge technologies provide our customers improved
performance and productivity."

Industry standard PCI hardware broadens solutions available to customers
because Apple's PCI implementation is fully compatible with the PCI 2.0
specification. Any 2.0-compliant PCI card with the appropriate software
driver will work in the Power Macintosh 9500, requiring little additional
investment for the PC platform developer to manage cross-platform
development. Likewise, developers of NuBus (Apple's existing bus
architecture) products can easily leverage their experience over to PCI.

PCI developers who have announced support of or have announced products for
the new Power Macintosh include: 4Sight International, Adaptec, Inc.,
Asante Technologies Inc., ATI Technologies Inc., ATTO Technology, Avid
Technology, Creative Solutions Inc., Dai Nippon Screen Manufacturing
Company, Ltd., DCA, Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc., Digital Equipment
Corporation, Distributed Processing Technology (DPT), Electronic Imaging
Systems, Inc., Farallon Computing, Inc., FAST Multimedia AG, FWB, Inc.,
Harlequin Limited, Hermstedt GmbH, InnoSys Incorporated, Intelligent
Resources Integrated Systems, Inc., Interphase Corporation, Itek Colour
Graphics Ltd. (ICG), Linotype-Hell, Matrox Graphics Inc., Micronet
Technology Inc., miro Computer Products Inc., National Instruments,
Neutral Ltd., Newer Technology, Orange Micro Inc., Precision Digital
Images, QLogic Corporation, Radius Inc., Rockwell Network Systems, SCii
Telecom, Second Wave, Inc., Spectra Systems, Truevision, Wired Inc., and
Yarc Systems.

Application Development Momentum

Applications optimized for the Power Macintosh platform are being released
at an increasing pace, with the world's leading developers all offering
native applications. More than 150 new native applications have been
released within the last two months, bringing the total number to over
750. With the availability of these new native applications, Power Mac
customers can choose from a wealth of software applications to help meet
their unique computing requirements. Apple's base of third-party
developers are providing native application solutions across all market
sectors, including the areas of general business and productivity,
publishing, education, multimedia, science, engineering and
entertainment.

With little additional investment, developers can significantly boost the
speed of their native applications by optimizing especially for the new
Power Mac 9500 with the next generation PowerPC 604 processor, allowing
specific operations to run even faster--up to 300%--than they do on
today's powerful RISC processor. Leading native applications developers
with significant announcements today include: Avian Systems, Inc., Bentley
Systems, CambridgeSoft Corporation (formerly known as Cambridge Scientific
Computing), Deutsch Technology Research, Frame Technology, HSC Software,
Quark, Inc., Macromedia, OSC, Spyglass, Inc., Strata Inc., Wolfram
Research and WordPerfect Corporation.

In addition to the over 750 native applications accelerated for Power
Macintosh, customers can also choose from the tens of thousands of
Macintosh and Windows applications that can run unaltered on Power
Macintosh computers. Optional software programs allow Power Macintosh
systems to run DOS and Windows programs and are available bundled in Power
Macintosh configurations or as a standalone product.

PCI, Native Apps and Power Mac 9500: A Powerful Combination

The increased performance of the new PowerPC 604 processor and the speed of
native Power Macintosh applications, coupled with the increased throughput
of the PCI bus gives customers two times the performance of the Power Mac
8100/110, making it the fastest personal computer from Apple to date.
Targeted to customers in publishing, media authoring, scientific and
engineering markets, the Power Mac 9500 is the most customizable Macintosh
computer with six high-speed PCI slots where a wide variety of input and
output devices can reside. Using new 64-bit DIMMs (Daul-Inline Memory
Modules) the Power Mac 9500 also allows for DRAM expansion of up to 768
MB. The unprecedented expansion and customization possibilities make the
Power Macintosh 9500 ideal for handling large data files and image
manipulation common to these markets.

Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized pioneer and innovator in the information
industry, creates powerful solutions based on easy-to-use personal
computers, servers, peripherals, software, on-line services, and personal
digital assistants. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple (NASDAQ:
AAPL) develops, manufactures, licenses and markets products, technologies
and services for the business, education, consumer, scientific &
engineering and government markets in over 140 countries.
