ATI Technologies Inc. Announces XCLAIM GA Graphics Accelerator For Power
Macintosh 9500

Debuts At Power Macintosh 9500 Launch

THORNHILL, Ont., Canada--June 19, 1995 -- ATI Technologies Inc. today
announced its first product for Apple's PCI-based systems, the XCLAIM GA
graphics accelerator board. The XCLAIM GA uses ATI's highly regarded
mach64 controller on a PCI local bus board.

"ATI is bringing affordable performance to the Power Macintosh market with
a graphics accelerator board specifically designed for Macintosh design
and publishing professionals," said Henry Quan, Vice President of
Marketing at ATI Technologies Inc. "Our PCI-based accelerators are priced
at a third of what users would pay for traditional NuBus graphics cards,"
he added.

"The XCLAIM GA represents a compelling high-end graphics solution which
takes full advantage of PCI and PowerPC technologies," said Howard Lee,
senior vice president of Apple's Macintosh Systems Division.

Enhanced Performance for Power Macintosh Users

While the XCLAIM GA is fully compliant with the PCI Local Bus 2.0
specification, and leverages ATI's award-winning experience in producing
PCI graphics products, the XCLAIM GA has been specifically designed to
meet the advanced needs of mainstream Macintosh users. For example,
bi-endian hardware support was engineered into the XCLAIM graphics
controller, providing big-endian byte ordering and eliminating the
software overhead associated with the byte swapping techniques favored by
some vendors.

ATI's drivers support all QuickDraw acceleration calls and the mach64
graphics controller chip provides additional acceleration functions,
providing increased performance as QuickDraw evolves, under Copland (the
next version of the Macintosh operating system).

Popular Macintosh versions of graphics applications including Adobe
Photoshop, QuarkXpress and FrameMaker ran up to eight times faster than
unaccelerated graphics in recent tests. For example, the scrolling time
for a 24-bit Adobe Photoshop image took 20 seconds using the XCLAIM GA
board, compared to 169 seconds without acceleration. '

Supported Colors, Resolutions and Features

Using ATI's mach64 graphics controller, the XCLAIM GA supports display
resolutions up to 1600x1200 with a 75Hz refresh rate. The 2MB version
provides 16.7 million colors at 832x624, while the 4MB version provides
16.7 million colors in 1152x870 resolution, with a flicker-free display
that is easy on the eyes and leads to increased comfort and productivity.

ATI has religiously adhered to all Macintosh user-interface conventions and
guidelines. For example, the ATI Displays control panel provides easy
access to a host of features, including pan and zoom. Users can modify
their workspace to access a virtual desktop of up to 2304x1740, or switch
color depth and resolution on the fly using user-defined hot keys. The
panel also includes complete coach-marked and task-assisted AppleGuide
support, to step users through all the features of the XCLAIM GA board.

Users can choose the display that best meets their needs as the XCLAIM GA
comes with dual monitor connectors for both Apple and VGA-style monitors,
eliminating the need for confusing and cumbersome adapter devices.
Extensive compatibility testing has ensured that the board works with all
Apple and industry standard monitors. The XCLAIM GA drivers are qualified
on all major Power Macintosh applications.

Pricing, Availability and Customer Support

The XCLAIM GA is available in 2MB and 4MB VRAM versions. The 2MB version is
upgradeable to 4MB with an optional memory module, providing users with an
upgrade path to more colors at higher resolutions when they need it. The
suggested retail price (SRP) for the 2MB version is $449, with the 4MB
version having an SRP of $649. The 2MB plug-in memory module has a SRP of
$249. The products are now available through distributors and resellers.
XCLAIM GA boards are backed by a five-year, worldwide warranty. Customers
can call ATI's Customer Support line Monday to Friday from 9AM to 7PM EST
(905-882-2626).
