BROTHER GIVES THE HOME AND SOHO PC USER THE ABILITY TO SCAN, FAX, COPY, AND
FILE DOCUMENTS FOR UNDER $200!

Somerset, NJ, June 20, 1995--Brother International Corporation, a leading
supplier of home office equipment, has announced they will enter the
scanner market with their new ImageCenter Series. Brother's new
ImageCenter Series are no ordinary scanners, they are multi-function
imaging tools that can dramatically increase any PC user's productivity.
Now home and SoHo PC users can harness scanning, plain paper copying,
original document faxing, and electronic filing capabilities at their PC
workstation...for less than $200! T Brother is introducing two ImageCenter
models; the ImageCenter 100 is expected to have a street price under
$200--and the ImageCenter 150 OCR, which adds bonus OCR software solutions
for text documents and business cards, is expected to have a street price
under $250. Both products will be available in July.

"Most homes, home offices, and small offices already have a PC, printer,
and PC/Fax modem, but they still have no way to scan an image into their
PC or fax an original document that was not generated on their PC. Plus,
they usually have to leave their workstation or go to the local print shop
for copies," said Dean F. Shulman, Senior Vice President of Brother's
Business Machine Group. "But now these users can afford a product that
works with their existing PC and printer, and performs all those functions
right at their desktop."

The ImageCenter 100 was designed specifically for those PC users that have
always wanted the ability to do convenience scanning at their desktop, but
never felt the periodic use could justify the high expense. But the
ImageCenter 100 doesn't stop there, it also turns their existing ink jet
or laser printer into a plain paper copier, and allows them to utilize
their existing PC/Fax modem and TWAIN compliant fax software for sending
original document faxes. The ImageCenter 150 OCR comes standard with Xerox
Textbridge OCR software for converting scanned documents to editable text,
and Cognitive Technologies Business Card software for scanning in business
cards to create a personal business card database.

IT SCANS...

The ImageCenter Series are all-purpose input devices that let users scan
images, such as logos, line art, signatures, and important documents for
storage, directly into their computers. Scanning not only makes
overstuffed filing cabinets a thing of the past, but it saves valuable
time. Both models are TWAIN compliant, and transfer paper documents into
storable data at up to 4.6 pages per minute. They also have a large 20
page automatic document feeder, 400 x 400 dpi interpolated resolution, and
64 shade gray scale for photo scanning.

And with the ImageCenter 150 OCR the user can convert scanned images to
text, making it possible to make necessary changes to that text without
having to retype the whole document. The user can also scan all their
accumulated business cards into the PC creating a text-based database that
can be stored, edited, sorted, or printed.

IT MAKES PLAIN PAPER COPIES...

The ImageCenter Series are easy to connect to a PC because they don't
require an additional port from the users existing PC. They utilize the
same parallel port that is currently used for the users existing printer.
The user simply connects their ink jet or laser printer into the
ImageCenter, and then connects the ImageCenter to the parallel port on the
PC. This simplified connectivity creates an enhanced multi-function
environment that enables the ImageCenter to act as a personal plain paper
copier, outputing copies to their existing ink jet or laser printer. There
is no need to leave the PC workstation just to make convenience copies.
The ImageCenter can even make copies to the printer, when the PC is off!

IT FAXES...

Over the last year, almost all new PC's sold in the U.S. have come bundled
with a PC/Fax modem and fax software. Many of these new PC users now have
the ability to send faxes, but they quickly find the one important
limitation...there is no way to send an original document that was
generated on their PCT But the new ImageCenter Series allows the user to
send original documents as faxes through their existing PC/Fax modem and
TWAIN compliant fax software. The ImageCenter is the ideal solution for
those "hardcore" computer-fax users that never wanted to buy a stand-alone
fax, but have always had the need to fax non-PC generated documents.
