CALDERA ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR OPENDOC

Caldera Network Desktop Brings Powerful Development Environment of Linux to
OpenDoc Developers

NEW YORK, June 20, 1995 - PC EXPO - Caldera, the company that will deliver
Linux to business, today announced its support for OpenDoc, and its
membership in the Component Integration Laboratories, Inc. (CI Labs), the
industry association driving OpenDoc. Caldera's support of OpenDoc will
make it easier for customers, ISVs, OEMs and resellers to build flexible,
task-oriented, distributed applications that enable greater productivity
and can be deployed on Caldera platforms.

OpenDoc, the cross-platform component-software standard, will enable
end-users to enjoy fully distributed, specialized applications that will
bring sophisticated, integrated functionality to local, enterprise and
public networks, as well as on their desktop.

"We chose to implement OpenDoc not only to facilitate our own
cross-platform development, but because we see OpenDoc as the best
component-based software solution in the industry, and for our platform.
CI Labs' goals are synergistic with ours: to provide an open environment
for innovation, industry growth and diversity while preserving
interoperability, functionality and choice for customers. OpenDoc offers a
flexible, cross-platform, vendor independent, distributed solution for
developers and end-users," said Bryan Sparks, President of Caldera.

Caldera's support of OpenDoc offers developers and desktop users a
vendor-neutral, fully distributed software architecture for using and
creating customized lines of business applications. Caldera will port the
OpenDoc engine and tightly integrate that with a fully distributed, CORBA
compliant Object Request Broker (ORB).

Caldera will use OpenDoc technologies in its Caldera Network Desktop,
enabling OpenDoc applications to run seamlessly on the platform. Caldera
will use the OpenDoc/ORB combination to create component-based
applications that will ship with the Caldera Network Desktop.

Additionally, Caldera will provide a Software Developers Kit (SDK) for
OpenDoc and the Caldera ORB. The SDK will make it simpler for developers
to produce fully-distributed OpenDoc applications on the Caldera platform.
More details on the SDK will be available in the near future.

"OpenDoc, when combined with the Caldera Network Desktop, our network
services and our ORB, will drive the development and delivery of a new
breed of applications that will increase productivity and create
innovative solutions for our users," added Ransom Love, vice president of
marketing for Caldera.

OpenDoc is promoted and managed by CI Labs, a vendor-neutral industry
association which enjoys numerous and prominent members of the computer
industry, including Apple, IBM and Novell. Caldera's participation in CI
Labs assures that Caldera will be able to incorporate the latest OpenDoc
advances and play a significant role in the evolution of OpenDoc for
UNIX-based environments. Ultimately, Caldera's participation in CI Labs
delivers a more powerful component software architecture to Caldera
developers.

Caldera, Inc., a privately held company established in 1994, empowers the
Internet community, developers, OEMs, ISVs, industry partners and end
users to collaborate, innovate, build, and deliver meaningful computing
alternatives to the business community.
