Cheyenne ARCsolo for Windows Integrates With Compaq DeskPro PCs To Perform
Data Capture Immediately Preceding Hard Drive Failure

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK (June 20, 1995) -- Cheyenne Software, Inc.
(AMEX:CYE), a world leader in the development of storage management
software, today announced the integration of its workstation-based backup
and restore software, Cheyenne ARCsolo for Windows, with Compaq's DeskPro
to provide the first fault tolerant data backup and restore capability on
networked PCs. A predictive hard drive failure on Compaq DeskPro PCs
triggers ARCsolo for Windows to perform a final backup of data.

Data protection at this level is unheard of in the industry, and provides
the fault tolerance critical to safeguard increasingly distributed mission

Designed to optimize the soon to be available Microsoft Windows '95
operating system, each industry leader has provided different components
of the technology to accomplish this high level of data protection and
minimize downtime. Compaq partnered with Seagate, Quantum and Connor to
develop advanced diagnostic specifications, later called SMART, that
enables the DeskPro IntelliSafe hard drive to detect an imminent hard
drive failure, complimented by system software developed by Compaq.
Cheyenne provided the transport technology that will allow the hard drives
to submit a job to ARCsolo when a drive is failing. Therefore, the entire
system can be self sufficient and perform automatic backups nightly to
dramatically lower administrative and downtime costs. "Today's networks
are expensive and complicated to install, maintain and control," said
Kevin Bohren, vice president of Compaq Computer Corporation. "Our strategy
is to simplify this process and lower the total cost of PC ownership with
innovations, such as Compaq's Intelligent Manageability, that truly
simplifies the lives of network administrators and users. In partnering

the tools and support needed to confidently run their entire networked
enterprise on Compaq PCs and servers".

Since July of 1994, Compaq has recommended Cheyenne's industry leading
ARCserve for NetWare data management software to its ProLiant and
ProSignia customer base with the SmartStart CD shipped with each purchase.
In May 1995, Compaq selected Cheyenne ARCserve for Windows NT, a native
Microsoft Windows NT operating system-based backup and restore software
solution, for inclusion on its SmartStart software distribution CD-ROM.
The set of six CDs allows customers to purchase software by obtaining an
activation key from any authorized Compaq reseller.

Microsoft will bundle ARCserve's Windows '95 agent software with every copy
of Windows '95. As a result, ARCserve running on either a NetWare or
Windows NT server can contact each Windows '95 workstation, recognize the
ARCserve agent already resident on the system, and automatically back up
the resident data. Cheyenne has also developed client agent software for
all the popular platforms including UNIX, Windows, Macintosh, OS/2,
Windows NT, and DOS, resulting in complete data protection for today's
distributed corporate networks.
