CONNER EXPANDS SUPPORT FOR DATA PROTECTION STANDARD

SCSI hard disk drives to comply with new industry reliability specif
cation

San Jose, Calif., June 19, 1995 -- Conner Peripherals, Inc., (NYSE: CRN)
today joined other leading manufacturers to support the Self-Monitoring,
Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) specification for products that
use the SCSI interface. SMART is a reliability reporting specification
that provides makers of computer systems with the ability to warn users if
a disk drive is in danger of losing data.

SMART systems will query SMART data storage devices and other compliant
peripherals, and automatically report their reliability status to system
and network administrators. By providing advance warning that a disk drive
failure is imminent, the user can replace the drive before data loss or
downtime occurs. The SMART specification for SCSI is outlined in the
Information Exception Condition SCSI-3 standard, which was recently
accepted by the ANSI X3T10 committee as the standard for SCSI data
protection.

"Conner was an early adopter of the SMART specification for enhanced IDE
disk drives for desktop systems," said Gary Marks, vice president of disk
drive marketing at Conner. "We're pleased to expand that support to the
SCSI arena, where data integrity and availability are equally paramount
concerns, though on a much larger scale."

Other SCSI manufacturers that support SMART systems include Adaptec Inc.,
Hewlett-Packard Information Storage Group, IBM Storage Systems Division,
Quantum Corp. and Seagate Technology.

Founded in 1986, Conner sells, designs and builds a comprehensive line of
information storage solutions products, including disk drives, tape
drives, storage management software and disk array storage systems, for a
wide range of computer applications. Conner had 1994 sales of $2.4
billion.
