Development Technologies, Inc., Announces Support For IBM's OpenDoc
Technology

Columbia, SC -- Development Technologies, Inc., (DevTech), the developer of
DeskMan/2, the best selling and internationally acclaimed software tool
for managing OS/2's Workplace Shell, announces its complete support for
IBM's OpenDoc Technology.

OpenDoc, coming from successful and widespread roots on the Apple
Macintosh, already provides a robust, mature, open, object oriented
architecture for component level software integration. Currently, OS/2
provides DevTech with many avenues for further enhancing the OSD user's
environment, ranging from developing new OpenDoc components, to upgrading
existing components with new OpenDoc extensions.

"It has tremendous technical advantages over non-object oriented,
proprietary, single vendor offerings (e.g. OLE), and also offers the
benefits of a truly open, industry controlled standard," states Bergman.
The OMG charter precludes the adoption of proprietary technology, and
requires submitters of adopted technology to provide complete
specifications so that a component competitor can implement and support
the same adopted interface.

DevTech has a strong background with object technology and distributed
object systems, including involvement with Object Management Group (OMG)
standards for distributed objects (CORBA) and Object Services. Noel
Bergman, president of DevTech, states, "We are passionate advocates of
open, flexible, and extensible software, and believe that standardized
object technology offers the best chance to build and maintain this kind
of software."

DevTech believes OpenDoc is key to the successful deployment of
multi-vendor, multiplatform solutions. Software components on platforms
ranging from Personal Digital Assistance's to mainframes can seemlessly
interconnect with one another, and/or extend one another to deliver
desired functionality.

DevTech congratulates IBM and CILabs on the debut of OpenDoc for OS/2. Our
customers can look forward to new and exciting products that will allow
them to reap the rewards from OpenDoc and other OS/2 technologies such as
PowerPC. Bergman adds, "DevTech looks forward to developing innovative
software packages that will provide users with enhanced functionality to
better manage and optimize the OS/2 environment."
