Pentium PowerBricks Join 100MHz DX4

June 1995 -- Ergo Computing announces that its popular PowerBrick line is
now Pentium Powered. At speeds of up to 90mhz, these computers really
move. PowerBricks feature up to 40MB RAM and local bus 1.3 GB hard disk,
accelerated graphics with 1MB RAM, built-in 14.14 fax/modem, CD-quality
audio and two PCMCIA type ll slots for network, SCSI or other functions,
plus an optional expansion capability for 2 full length ISA cards. These
would be impressive specs for a desktop, but consider this is a notebook
that can be used anywhere and now has the power of a Pentium processor.
Prices start at $3,195 for 8MB system with 525MB Hard Drive and DSTN color
LCD. Similar configurations, but with a 100 MHz 486 DX4 start at $2,695.

According to Tom Spalding, president of Ergo Computing in Peabody, MA, a
significant percentage of customers are using PowerBricks as their
principal PC. This is an easy choice when you have
several systems and the PowerBrick is the fastest of the lot. However,
speed is not the only attribute a user gains. "You gain the benefit of
always having your main PC with you" says Spalding, "Forget leaving that
critical document or phone number behind at the office and you're a
continent away. Plus you can work on any size application, from an
industrial strength CAD, to desktop publishing, to scientific computing.
Notebooks are not just for E-Mail anymore."

Many PowerBrick desktop users actually use a color CRT screen with full
size keyboard and mouse when they are at their principal site, such as the
office. This way there is no disadvantage vis-a-vis a regular desktop,
particularly with Windows, which is much nicer to use with a high res 17"
or 21" color monitor. The local bus graphic accelerator in the PowerBrick
not only provides up to 65,000 colors at 800 x 600, or 256 colors at
1024x768 but it is also auto-senses if an external monitor is connected.
If it detects a monitor it automatically runs windows in hi-res mode. If
no external monitor is connected, it runs Windows at 640x480 on the 10.2"
active color or 10.4" dual scan color.

Another benefit of a PowerBrick vs. a desktop is the expansion capability.
The PowerBrick offers fast graphics, local bus IDE, 2 serial ports,
enhanced parallel port plus a 14.4 fax/modem, audio record and playback,
two PCMCIA slots and the choice of two more full length ISA cards in the
portable expansion chassis for a total of 6 slots worth of expansion
features.

All Ergo systems feature a 4 year GE warranty, the longest in the industry.
In addition Ergo offers excellent support with 24 hour, 7 day toll free
tech support with the best ratio of service techs to installed machines so
customers actually reach a real person rather than voice mail should they
need to call for help.
