EXABYTE ANNOUNCES FREE PALINDROME BACKUP SOFTWARE WITH 8MM LIBRARY
PURCHASES

For a Limited Time, Palindrome 's Backup Director for Workgroups Software
Will be Bundled Free with Exabyte's EXB-10h 8mm Tape Library

BOULDER, Colo., June 1, 1995--The best deal in entry-level 8mm storage
automation just got better, industry leader Exabyte Corp. (NASDAQ: EXBT)
announced today. In conjunction with software partner Palindrome Corp.
(NYSE: SEG), Exabyte said that beginning June 15, 1995, it will include a
free copy of Palindrome's Backup Director for Workgroups software with the
purchase of an Exabyte EXB-10h 8mm Tape Library. Backup Director for
Workgroups has a retail value of $995 [U.S.]. The special
hardware/software bundle will be available worldwide for a limited time
through the following Exabyte distributors: Comp Connect, D2, Datalogic,
Gates/Arrow, GBC, IAN, Ingram Micro, Intelligent Electronics, M&S, MBI,
Maxcom, Merisel, SM Data and Tech Data.

Backup Director for Workgroups fully automates data backup and restore
(including end-user restore capabilities), as well as tape-drive-cleaning
operations. The easy integration offered by the software (Backup Director
for Workgroups can be installed and configured in minutes), in combination
with the functionality of the EXB-10h, eliminate the barriers toward
automating backup and restore functions. Designed for single-server
Netware network environments, Backup Director for Workgroups is fully
upgradeable to a multiple-server version as needs within an organization
grow.

The hardware portion of the bundle, Exabyte's EXB-10h, is designed to be an
entry-level 8mm tape library solution for current, price-sensitive 8mm
tape drive users or any end user considering migrating to storage
automation. Incorporating an Exabyte EXB-8505XL 8mm half-high tape drive
and up to 10 8mm EXATAPE data cartridges in a space-saving enclosure, the
EXB-10h stores up to 140 gigabytes of compressed data at a rate of 60
megabytes per minute. This capacity level represents a 40-percent
improvement over preceding models of the company's popular EXB-10 series.
The EXB-10h also has 67-percent-better reliability of 100,000
mean-cycles-between-failure, as well as an improved robotics system and a
12-second cartridge access time. In addition to the tape drive and data
cartridges, the EXB-10h also comes packaged with a SCSI cable, an owners'
manual and an EXATAPE cleaning cartridge. The EXB-10h has a one-year
warranty from Exabyte. The expected end-user price of the product is under
$7,000 [U.S.].

"The EXB-10h alone represents an outstanding value for end users wanting to
migrate to automation and the ease it offers," said Jeffrey M. Platon,
Exabyte's business line manager for value-added products and services.
"But with the addition of free Palindrome software, the EXB-10h package
becomes a complete automated solution. Now, high-capacity automated backup
and restore is within the reach of environments where previously it might
have been thought too complicated or too expensive."

"Exabyte and Palindrome have created a solution that will expand the
adoption of tape library systems," added Michael Kidd, Palindrome's vice
president of business development. "The typical barriers to adoption like
ease of installation, low administration and cost of entry have all been
addressed.

According to industry analysis provided by Dataquest, Exabyte held an
approximate 90-percent share of the 8mm library market in 1994, based on
units shipped. Exabyte's worldwide installed base of libraries is over
20,000.

Palindrome Corp., a Seagate Software Company, is a world leader in the
development of backup and storage management software for Novell networks
including disaster recovery planning, network backup, hierarchical storage
management (HSM) and centralized storage management. Palindrome products
are sold by major distributors, integrators and resellers worldwide.

Headquartered in Boulder, Colo., Exabyte Corp. designs, manufactures and
markets a full range of tape storage products: 8mm, 4mm and quarter-inch
minicartridge tape drives, tape libraries and recording media. Exabyte is
the world's largest independent manufacturer focused solely on tape
storage products, which it ships to original equipment manufacturers,
value-added resellers and distributors.
