Support and sales people ready after months of training

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., June 15, 1995 - Gateway 2000 (Nasdaq: GATE) today
announced the company is offering upgrades to the Microsoft Windows 95
operating system and will include lifetime technical support at no
additional charge. All customers purchasing new Gateway desktop and
portable PCs as of Tuesday, June 13, will receive Windows 95 documentation
at the time of purchase, and an upgrade at no additional charge when the
product becomes available. Current Gateway owners can also immediately
call Gateway 2000 to reserve their copy of Gateway's Windows 95 upgrade
package which includes lifetime technical support at no additional
charge.

"While everybody else in the industry is pulling back on their support,
Gateway 2000 is adding even more support for our customers," said Ted
Waitt, chairman and CEO of Gateway 2000. "We've reengineered our customer
support organization so that we are far more responsive and can offer the
best technical support in the industry. We're probably the only ones in
the industry that can offer this level of support directly to the
customer."

Rob Cheng, vice president of desktops, said "For the first time in the
history of the PC industry, power users and novices alike will be able to
take advantage of a single operating system that offers the combination of
improved 32-bit performance and ease-of-use."

Best support, no additional charge

Jim Collas, vice president of customer support said, "Gateway 2000 is
committed to providing the best values in the PC industry. And to us,
value is even more than offering the latest technology products at great
prices. Gateway's definition of value includes providing our customer with
outstanding toll-free service and support for the life of their system.
We've always been committed to providing top-notch support, and now we've
made it even better."

Gateway 2000 will provide its customers with lifetime technical support for
Microsoft Windows 95 at no additional charge if the customer purchases the
operating system from Gateway. Anyone who purchases Windows 95 from
Gateway, whether on a new Gateway PC or as an upgrade to their current
Gateway PC, receives toll-free telephone technical support including
installation, configuration and problem resolution assistance for the
operating system.

"We've been preparing a long time for Windows 95," said Waitt. "We've
developed the most comprehensive, customer-oriented Windows 95 offerings
available anywhere. All Gateway PCs are designed to take advantage of the
power and usability enhancements of Windows 95. Our customer service and
technical support staff have had extensive training for months so that
they can fully understand and support this product. Sales representatives
have been trained on the advantages of Windows 95 and the differences
between it and other operating systems and can easily prepare customers
for a system ready to run Windows 95. We're ready to bring our customers
all the advantages of the next generation operating system.

"Last fall, we sent our technical trainers through intense instruction at
Microsoft Corporation," Waitt added. "This spring, our trainers began
teaching our technicians worldwide. All technicians at Gateway 2000 will
be fully trained on the new operating system by the time it is released by
Microsoft."

Value-added upgrades

Gateway customers may also purchase, for an additional charge, upgrade and
add-on installation packages that include on-site installation of Windows
95. Customers can also purchase larger hard drives and more memory to
better utilize Windows 95 and have the hardware upgrades installed by a
technician if they so desire.

Jeff Bishop, Gateway 2000 customer support manager, said, "Many proactive
steps have been taken to provide all customers with a high level of
service during the Windows 95 upgrade program. Gateway will have a
separate toll-free number dedicated to Windows 95 support. Instructions
for installing the Windows 95 upgrade can also be obtained 24 hours a day
through Gateway's Interactive Voice Response system."

Fee-based support

Fee-based technical support will be available for Gateway 2000 customers
who purchase the operating system elsewhere. Fee-based tutoring assistance
for questions about how to use specific features of the operating system
will also be available to all customers.

Windows 95 Plug and Play

All new Gateway 2000 PCs feature the Windows 95 Plug and Play BIOS. Plug
and Play capabilities will make the PC much easier to use by reducing time
spent configuring the system when a user installs new devices such as a
printer, modem, sound card or network adapter. Windows 95 detects and
configures Plug and Play-compatible components automatically. It also
senses and notifies users during dynamic changes to the system such as
changing a printer or adding a PC card.

Windows 95 is compatible with software, hardware and device drivers Gateway
is currently shipping. Because Windows 95 is compatible with MS-DOS-based
and Windows-based applications and drivers, users can continue using
existing hardware and software with Windows 95. Windows 95 also adds new
features to older MS-DOS-based programs and games, including a toolbar and
the ability to run the programs without having to exit Windows and run
under MS-DOS.

Build to order

Gateway 2000 offers customers the flexibility of build-to-order or pre-
configured systems. Customers who want to do so can customize any Gateway
2000 PC by ordering memory upgrades and selecting from a wide variety of
hard drives, video cards, monitors, fax/modems, network cards and tape
backup units. The company also offers a choice of the AnyKey programmable
keyboard or a standard 101-key keyboard on its desktop PCs. In addition to
build-to-order PCs, Gateway offers a wide range of standard
configurations, carefully specified to provide customers the latest
technology in a value-packed system.

Customer Support

Gateway 2000's newly enhanced technical support team offers award-winning
responsiveness. All Gateway 2000 desktop and portable systems come with
lifetime toll-free technical support and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Desktop systems carry a three-year parts warranty and portables have a
one-year parts warranty. All systems include membership to the Gateway
2000 electronic bulletin board system. Technical support and customer
service are also available through a FaxBack service, an automated order
inquiry telephone system, an interactive voice-response system and forums
on the most popular electronic services, such as CompuServe, America
OnLine, GEnie and Prodigy. On-site service is provided at no additional
charge during the first year if Gateway technicians determine it is
necessary.
