HP ANNOUNCES NETSERVER LH WITH ADVANCED PCI, INTELLIGENT HOT-SWAP AND
DUAL-PROCESSOR PERFORMANCE

Easy-to-manage, Optimized Price/Performance Servers that Deliver Maximum
Uptime

PALO ALTO, Calif. April 24, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
introduced the HP NetServer LH Series -- HP's next-generation PCI network
servers based on Intel Pentium/75, Pentium/100, and dual Pentium/100MHz
processors. Engineered to meet the increasing demands of today's complex
networks, the HP NetServer LH features advanced PCI technology; an
intelligent hot-swap disk subsystem with innovative bus management
capability; and the new HP NetServer Navigator -- a bootable CD-ROM with
easy-to-use tools for configuring, installing and managing the servers
quickly.

"The HP NetServer LH fulfills the critical needs of network environments in
which scalable performance, data integrity and system uptime are essential
to the success of the business," said James P. McDonnell, worldwide
marketing manager of HP's Network Server Division. "These servers deliver
uncompromised levels of performance, uptime and manageability."

To meet the performance requirements of today's wide range of business
applications, the HP NetServer LH offers scalable processors, from Pentium
75MHz to uni- or dual-Pentium 100MHz. These servers come with 32MB of ECC
memory for Pentium/100MHz models and up to 512KB of external write-back
cache for dual-Pentium/100MHz models. With these powerful processors, plus
an advanced PCI bus that accommodates up to 5 PCI I/O devices, two PCI
Fast SCSI-2 controllers integrated on the bus and fast hot-swap drives,
the HP NetServer LH delivers exceptional I/O bandwidth and system
performance.

Innovative features are incorporated into the HP NetServer LH to ensure
data integrity and high system uptime. All models come with a new hot-swap
disk subsystem with dual-SCSI backplane for easy internal-disk duplexing
and continued access to the server during replacement of failed drives.
This hot-swap subsystem also is equipped with an intelligent bus for
managing the subsystem and its hard drives. Error checking and correcting
(ECC) memory with error-management capability is included with all models.
A built-in automatic server restart (ASR) feature activates the server in
the event that the network operating system (NOS) hangs.

For even more system-uptime capability in running business-critical
applications, all HP NetServer array models include the dual-channel PCI
array controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 6. In addition to
providing higher performance through PCI bus and better processor
utilization, this PCI array controller is equipped with automatic
hot-spare drive architecture, which, in the event of a drive failure,
reconstructs data on a spare drive automatically and without user
intervention. The new HP JetSet disk-array management software included
and provides broad support for multivendor-operating-system environments,
including IBM OS/2, Microsoft(R) Windows NT, Novell NetWare and SCO UNIX.
The PCI array controller also is available as an optional adapter for
other HP NetServer PCI systems.

Continuing with its popular HP server-management solutions, HP provides the
HP NetServer LH with HP NetServer Navigator, a bootable CD-ROM with
easy-to-use tools for users to configure, install and manage their servers
quickly. The HP NetServer Navigator also includes the HP NetServer
Assistant 2.2 server-management software for proactive alerting and
problem resolution. The optional HP Remote Assistant card provides
comprehensive remote diagnostics and hardware-environment monitoring.
Optional rack-mount solutions save customers valuable space in a
multiserver environment.

The HP NetServer LH is designed to protect the customer's investment with
lots of room for system growth. With a maximum of 256KB cache -- up to 5
PCI and 4 EISA I/O slots and 6 hot-swap drives -- customers can add
adapters and drives as needed.

The HP NetServer LH comes with a three-year, next-business-day, on-site
limited warranty by HP support engineers or certified HP resellers. For an
even higher level of service, HP offers an affordable HP SupportPack
program and Network Phone-in Support contract. HP SupportPack provides
customers with a four-hour response time during regular business hours or
seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The Network Phone-in Support service
provides unlimited toll-free access to HP support engineers who can answer
complex network questions and help network managers troubleshoot and
isolate problems in their network environment. The service is available
with HP SupportPack or by calling 800-437-9140.

To provide customers and resellers with up-to-date product information, HP
today introduced easy access to a broader range of HP NetServer
information via HP's World-Wide Web pages. Based on the Internet, the Web
enables customers to retrieve information quickly via the World-Wide Web
pages, using graphical browsers such as Netscape and Mosaic. The Web makes
it easy for customers and resellers to browse HP's database for product
information, technical specifications or updates and even product demos.
Access to the HP World-Wide Web is available at http://www.hp.com. HP
NetServer information is under the Products-Computing Servers section or
by connecting directly to http://www.hp.com/go/netserver.

U.S. Prices and Availability

The HP NetServer LH models are expected to start at $4,679. The
uniprocessor models and PCI array-controller adapter are scheduled to be
available through distributors and resellers on June 1. The dual-processor
models are expected to be available in the third quarter of this year. All
models are upgradable to dual-processor Pentium/100MHz.
