Information Builders Announces FOCUS Database Server for Windows NT

32-Bit Performance for FOCUS Workgroups

New York, NY (June 20, 1995) - Information Builders today announced
FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT, a high-performance database
management system that brings 32-bit support to FOCUS workgroups. The
newest addition to the FOCUS/Database Server line, the product boasts
dramatic increases in the maximum number of users supported as well as the
number of files concurrently available to those users. Benchmark testing
indicates reporting performance that is up to eight times better than that
of its competitors.

"These significant capacity increases, combined with the benchmark tests,
clearly demonstrate that FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT is the
perfect solution for FOCUS workgroups, regardless of size," said Dave
Feldstein, Vice President, Micro Products Division, Information Builders.
'They also position FOCUS as the best solution for workgroup -- as well as
enterprise -- reporting."

As many as 128 users can exploit the server, with multithreaded
communication and enhanced protocol support available to each one.
FOCUS/Database Server for NT takes responsibility for record selection and
updates, passing only selected records to the workstation. The
architecture significantly reduces network traffic as compared to
conventional PC-based data access.

The Windows NT version of FOCUS/Database Server rounds out a product line
that also supports DOS and OS/2. A Netware (NLM) version is planned for
release later this year. The NT and NLM versions each will support up to
256 files at a time -- over five times as many as previous releases of the
FOCUS/Database Server. Both also will not require a dedicated database
server and can share a PC with file server software.

Other features differentiate FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT from
other servers. The Windows NT Server lets users configure both NetBIOS and
Named Pipes "multiple protocol" support. In addition, a Remote
Administrator allows the system administrator to manage the server and
users remotely -- a feature that is especially convenient for
administrators of larger workgroups. With its easy setup and
administration. FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT works as an extension
of all FOCUS desktop products and can easily be integrated into an
Information Builders Data Warehouse as a location for local data marts.
Its compatibility with multiuser FOCUS products on other platforms makes
FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT the perfect solution for rightsizing
existing FOCUS applications.

FOCUS/Database Server for Windows NT recently outperformed SQL Server by a
ratio of 8 to 1 in report-intensive environments. The tests executed 17
queries with one, two, three, and four users. It took SQL Server 32 hours
to process the same queries that FOCUS/Database Server completed in four
hours. With the addition of more users to the system, performance
degradation was higher for SQL Server.

FOCUS, the leading fourth-generation language, allows customers to build
complete information management systems on more than 35 operating
platforms, including IBM, Digital, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems,
Pyramid, Sequent, AT&T GIS, Unisys, Data General, Wang, and personal
computers . FOCUS provides access to all major data structures and acts as
a universal client application to any host server platform. More than one
million users have benefited from its rapid application development tools,
