J&L Announces ChatAccess/PC, a PCMCIA Based Remote LAN Node Server

J&L Adds Internally Housed PCMCIA Modem Support to their ChatAccess Remote
LAN Node Servers at PC EXPO New York

New York, NY. June 19th 1995 -- J&L Information Systems a division of Astro
Sciences Corporation, a leading manufacturer of remote access solutions,
announced today two new models in their ChatAccess family. The
ChatAccess/PC4 and ChatAccess/PC8 high performance, multi- protocol remote
LAN node servers designed to incorporate either 4 or 8 Type II PCMCIA
modems within there low profile (less than 2 inches high) cases.

The ChatAccess/PC now adds the convenience of internal modems to remote
access LAN servers without the problems that usually attend these
proprietary solutions. Network administrators can now utilize "off the
shelf" PCMCIA modems or ISDN terminal adapters. Yet they can take
advantage of the reduced space, power and cabling requirements, and thanks
to PCMCIA's parallel data transfer to the server, increased performance.
The setup is also greatly simplified as each ChatAccess/PC will
automatically recognize and configure the installed PCMCIA modems or ISDN
adapters. There is even an internal speaker that provides audio
diagnostics for the PCMCIA modems.

The PCMCIA technology insures that when upgrading or replacing modems, they
can be simply "hot swapped" out without bringing the entire system down.

The ChatAccess/PC includes all the features of the standard ChatAccess
remote LAN access servers, including true multi-protocol support with
client software supporting Novell's IPX/SPX, Microsoft (NetBEUI), Windows
for Workgroups, Windows NT, IBM (NetBIOS), Banyan Vines (SPP/IPC),
Digital's DECnet Pathworks, Artisoft's LANtastic, and UNIX (TCP/IP). There
is also a full implementation of the PPP specification and support for IP
routing; Insuring existing TCP/IP remote users can dial in to a DOS or
Windows connection from their Apple Macintosh, Sun Workstation or client
PC running OS/2, Windows NT 3.5 or Windows 95, without having to load any
additional software. Also included are a strong set of security features
including Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) and Password
Authentication Protocol (PAP) and remote user callback.

Pricing for the 4 port ChatAccess/4PC is $2,895, the 8 port ChatAccess/8PC
$3,895. Availability is 30 days ARO.
