Kingston Lightning 486 Strikes 386/DX Market

Fountain Valley, CA--(June 1, 1995), Kingston Technology, the recognized
leader in processor upgrades, today announced the release of Lightning
486, a 486 66 MHz upgrade for most 386/DX systems, increasing performance
by up to five times over the original system. The addition of Lightning
486 for 386/DX ISA-based systems follows Kingston's 1994 release of
Lightning 486 (486/BL66) for IBM PS/2 Micro Channel systems.

The large performance increase is due to combining IBM's Blue Lightning 486
33/66 MHz clock doubled processor, an integrated 16KB internal cache and
an innovative write back cache scheme to optimize processor performance.
Lightning 486 (486/66CLN) allows users with 386/DX systems to double or
triple their clock speed resulting in maximized 486/66 MHz system
performance able to meet the ever increasing demands of today's software
and hardware peripherals.

"Lightning 486 provides a cost effective solution to obtaining 486
performance," said Darin Ferriola, processor upgrade and storage product
manager. "With sophisticated software applications on the horizon, such as
Microsoft's Windows 95, Lightning 486 is the ideal upgrade for extending
the life of existing 386/DX-based 16, 20, 25 and 33 Mhz systems."

A native Compaq Deskpro 20E (386DX 20MHz with 8MB RAM) takes 1 minute and
45 seconds to recalculate a 3MB size spreadsheet under Microsoft Excel for
Windows. Once Lightning 486 (486/66CLN) is installed in the same Compaq
Deskpro 20E, the recalculation time drops to 15 seconds. "That's a
nine-fold increase over the original performance," furthered Ferriola.

In 1994, Kingston released the Lightning 486 for IBM PS/2 Models 70 and 80,
following the 1993 release of SLC/Now!, the first IBM designed upgrade for
IBM PS/2 Models 25, 30, 50, 50Z and 60. Today Kingston rounds out its
processor upgrades with Lightning 486 for 386/DX systems and the recently
released TurboChip that increases most 486 systems' performance by up to
two times .

Lightning 486 easily installs into the existing processor socket of
386/DX-based systems after the original CPU is removed and an easy to run
software diskette is used to complete the process.

Shipping immediately, Lightning 486 (486/66CLN) is backed by Kingston's
limited lifetime warranty plus free technical support. Lightning 486
(486/66CLN) for 386/DX systems carries a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail
Price (MSRP) of $295. Kingston's Lightning 486 (486/BL66) for IBM PS/2
systems has an MSRP of $395.

With sales greater than $800 million in 1994, Kingston Technology is the
recognized leader in memory, processor, storage and portable upgrades. The
firm markets its products through a worldwide network of distributors,
major reseller chains and independent dealers.
