Kingston Releases TurboChip Upgrade

PC EXPO '95, New York, NY--(June 20, 1995), Kingston Technology, (Booth
#4134, Fountain Valley, CA), the recognized leader in processor upgrades,
today announced the release of TurboChip, a clock-tripling 486DX4 upgrade
for most 486DX or SX-based systems, increasing performance by more than
two times over the original system.

TurboChip is a chip for chip upgrade, meaning that the user simply- removes
their existing 486 processor and inserts TurboChip into the vacant
processor socket, immediately providing up to 100MHz of processing power.
TurboChip comes in two versions: TC486/75 and TC486/100. TC486/75 provides
486 clock-tripling performance for 486 16, 20 and 25MHz systems using the
clock-tripling Advanced Micro Devices Am486DX4 75MHz processor. TC486/100
upgrades 486-based 33MHz systems to 100MHz using the AMD Am486DX4 100MHz
processor. Both versions come equipped with 8kb internal cache plus a
cooling fan, enabling TurboChip to remain within its operating temperature
regardless of the system's cooling capabilities.

"TurboChip provides a cost effective solution to increasing 486
performance," said Darin Ferriola, processor upgrade and storage product
manager. "With sophisticated software applications on the horizon, such as
Microsoft's Windows 95, TurboChip is the ideal upgrade for extending the
life of existing 486 systems."

As a practical example of TurboChip's performance, TurboChip was
demonstrated on an IBM PS/Valuepoint 6384 running Microsoft Excel for
Windows. To recalculate a spreadsheet of 23 columns and 16,000 rows, the
Valuepoint needed 36.4 seconds to complete the spreadsheet. With TurboChip
installed, the exact same system needed a mere 17.8 seconds to recalculate
the same spreadsheet-- a 104% performance increase.

In 1994, Kingston released the Lightning 486 for IBM PS/2 Models 70 and 80,
following the 1993 release of SLC/Now!, the first IBM designed upgrade for
IBM PS/2 Models 25, 30, 50, 50Z and 60. This year, Kingston rounds out its
upgrades with TurboChip and the soon to be released Lightning 486 for
IBM-PC compatible 386 DX-based systems.

Shipping immediately, TurboChip is backed by Kingston's lifetime warranty
plus free technical support. TurboChips carries a Manufacturer's Suggested
Retail Price (MSRP) of $275 for the 100MHz version and $225 for the 75MHz
version.

With sales greater than $800 million in 1994, Kingston Technology is the
recognized leader in memory, processor, storage and portable upgrades. The
firm markets its products through a worldwide network of distributors,
major reseller chains and independent dealers.
