MAXTOR COMPLETES MANUFACTURING PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH HYUNDAI

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - May 9, 1995 - Maxtor Corporation (NASDAQ:MXTR) today
announced it has finalized an agreement for a manufacturing partnership
with Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. Maxtor and Hyundai
previously announced the intent to establish this partnership in January,
1995.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hyundai will manufacture Maxtor-designed
disk drives in a production facility operated by Hyundai Electronics. The
additional manufacturing capacity provided by Hyundai will supplement
production at Maxtor's state-of-the-art HDD assembly plant in Singapore.
The two companies plan to begin volume production by summer, 1995 at a
100,000 square foot Korean manufacturing site that could employ
approximately 1,200 people.

"This partnership is an integral part of Maxtor's future manufacturing
strategy," said Katherine Curtin Young, Maxtor senior vice president of
worldwide operations. "Hyundai's broad manufacturing expertise, combined
with a substantial capital investment, will greatly enhance Maxtor's
competitive position."

B.D. Choi, vice president and general manager of Hyundai's Storage
Business Division. "This partnership demonstrates Hyundai's commitment to

Maxtor and Hyundai have been involved in a strategic relationship since
1994 when Hyundai Electronics Industries and several members of the
Hyundai Business Group invested $150 million in Maxtor. In exchange,
Hyundai received approximately 19.4 million shares of Maxtor Series A
common stock, representing approximately 40 percent of Maxtor's
outstanding stock, and three seats on Maxtor's board of directors,
including the chairman's.

The Hyundai Business Group is one of Korea's largest enterprises, and is
engaged in diversified lines of business including the electronics,
automotive and shipbuilding industries. Hyundai Electronics manufactures
and markets semiconductors, computers, telecommunications, automotive
electronics and other industrial electronics products.

Maxtor Corp. develops, manufactures and markets mass storage products for
desktop and mobile computer systems. Products range from PCMCIA mobile
storage products to 3.5-inch AT drives for the desktop in capacities up to
1.2 gigabytes. Maxtor employs approximately 7,000 people worldwide and had
sales of $906.8 million in the fiscal year ended March, 1995.
