MetaWare Incorporated Announces CI Labs Membership, OpenDoc Parts Toolkit

New York, NY, - at PC Expo - June 20, 1995 - MetaWare Incorporated today
announced it has joined Component Integration (CI) Labs, inc., and plans
to market an OpenDoc parts toolkit concurrently with IBM's release of
SOM-enabled OpenDoc. MetaWare is the leading provider of DirectToSOM
application development toolkits for OS/2, and by incorporating the
OpenDoc component technology it further strengthens its object strategy
commitment.

"OpenDoc employs SOM functionality to create true component software based
on reusable objects," said Bennett C. Watson, MetaWare President.
"MetaWare's DirectToSOM feature in the High C/C++ for OS/2 toolset enables
easier and faster creation of OpenDoc parts. We believe the multi-platform
OpenDoc strategy from CI Labs is the best approach for creating compound
documents based on sound object strategy. MetaWare will closely track
OpenDoc deployment on other platforms."

MetaWare's High C/C++ toolsets are targeted to professional software
developers who require essential tools and enabling technology for
multi-platform and cross-platform applications. IBM selected MetaWare
toolsets for development of OS/2 for the PowerPC.

With DirectToSOM, developers compile their C++ source code to directly
create SOM-compatible binaries without having to write Interface
Definition Language (IDL). SOM objects created by this process will
interoperate with SOM objects written in other languages, or with OpenDoc
parts. The High C/C++ compiler can also automatically generate IDL for C++
classes, to interface with other SOM-supported languages that use IDL.

"MetaWare is committed to supporting OpenDoc and SOM," Watson continued.
"We feel CI Labs' object strategy is the best means for realizing the
potential of object technology to create truly reusable libraries and
compound document parts. MetaWare is pleased to be part of the large and
growing number of software industry leaders supporting the CI Labs object
strategy."
