MOUNTAINGATE ACQUIRES METRUM PERIPHERAL PRODUCTS

Leading Removable Hard Drive Supplier to Market DLT, VHS, Optical, and
Future High Performance 128 Track Longitudinal Tape Library Systems

Reno, NV -- June 5, 1995 -- MountainGate, a Lockheed Martin Company and a
leading provider of removable storage solutions, today announced the
acquisition of Metrum Peripheral Products from Metrum of Littleton,
Colorado. The terms of the contract were not disclosed. As a result of the
acquisition agreement, MountainGate will be marketing and distributing the
Metrum line of archival storage products including the company's Digital
Linear Tape (DLT) storage libraries, an Optical disk library, VHS tape
storage libraries, and the recently announced 128 track longitudinal tape
libraries. The acquisition of these lines expands MountainGate's current
line of storage offerings and will propel the company toward a position as
a leading provider of a full range of storage solutions.

Through the acquisition of Metrum Peripheral Products, MountainGate also
gains the rights to Metrum's VHS storage technology. VHS tape has gained
recognition for its efficient combination of very high storage density,
low-cost media, high reliability, and very high system storage capacity.
According to Dave Challis, director of marketing for MountainGate, "Metrum
provides a wide range of archival solutions which enhance MountainGate's
family of data storage products. This will broaden our market
opportunities and the storage solutions we can offer our customers."
MountainGate also plans to integrate multimedia solutions including
digital linear tape and optical disk based technologies into future
product lines.

MountainGate will market and distribute the Digital Linear Tape storage
libraries, Optical library, VHS tape libraries, and high performance 128
track tape libraries under the MountainGate name. The products offer a
diverse range of archival solutions and high standards of performance.
Designed to meet the demands of a wide range of applications, the Digital
Linear Tape data storage libraries are available in multiple
configurations with a maximum storage capacity of 74.4 TB (terabytes). The
Optical disk library utilizes 5.25 inch magneto optical disk media and can
provide up to 814 GB of storage. This product line is well-suited for
multi-user imaging and archival storage applications requiring high speed
system response in an active high-transaction environment. The VHS Library
series is a family of VHS systems capable of storing either 48 tape
cartridges (1TB) or 600 tape cartridges (12.5 TB). The VHS tape libraries
offer the highest data storage capacities per media type, high data
transfer rates, and fast access times in a small physical footprint. At 10
GB per cartridge, the 128 track tape libraries deliver transfer rates as
fast as 9 MB per second.
