Micro Solutions, Inc. Announces New 4x CD-ROM Backpack with Sound Card

June 15, 1995 -- Micro Solutions, Inc., began shipping a plug-and-play quad
speed CD-ROM drive on January 26. In mid-July, the new quad speed CD-ROM
backpack will also be available with a built-in sound card. The model
number for the drive is 164700 and its suggested retail price is $659.00
U.S.D. Purchasing a new model CD-ROM backpack with the built-in sound card
is an easy, cost-effective way to add sound and a CD-ROM to a desktop or
portable computer. You don't have the hassle of trying to install an
internal sound card or use a valuable expansion slot.

The quad speed CD-ROM backpack requires no interface cards because it
attaches to your printer port. It automatically recognizes Enhanced
Parallel Ports (EPP) and IEEE 1284 ports. This enables faster data
transfers as the provided software searches for EPP capability to push the
drive to its maximum performance level. It is also MPC 2 compliant when
running on an EPP port which allows you to access thousands of multimedia
applications. Another feature of the new drive is the sleek front-loading
motorized tray. The powered tray is convenient and requires no caddy. The
backpack drive comes equipped with a printer port on the back of the unit
so you don't have to disable normal print operation. It is compatible with
all IBM PCs, compatibles and portables.

The new model number 164700 CD-ROM features a 16-bit sound card which
allows both 16 and 8 bit stereo playback/recording. The sound card is
internally connected to the CD-ROM drive and can be used independently of
the backpack CD-ROM drive as well as simultaneously. It includes 20-voice
FM music synthesis, four (4) FM operators and 128 midi instruments.

The backpack 4x CD-ROM (with sound) comes bundled with software that
includes audio applications, DOS and OS/2 device drivers. It is Microsoft
Windows sound systems software compatible and works with all Windows-based
sound and multimedia applications.

Line input, auxiliary input and microphone jacks and included on the drive.
It also comes equipped with both line and speaker output jacks. The
speaker output jack is amplified at two-watts per channel, and there is a
manual volume control on the back of the drive.

Users who already own a backpack CD-ROM drive (model numbers 164550 or
163550) can upgrade their drive with a sound card kit for $149.00 U.S.D.
The field-installable upgrade kit will be available through world-wide
distribution and retail channels. Local retailers will be able to install
the sound card kit with ease.

You can even view Photo CDs with the CD-ROM backpack drive. The
multisession drive has received Photo CD compatibility certification from
Eastman Kodak, and is on their list of recommended drives. Other supported
media formats include: High Sierra, ISO 9660, CD-ROM/XA and CD-Audio.

The new quad speed CD-ROM backpack drive is so versatile that it can be
used by a varied population of computer users. It is being used by people
who are interested in both home entertainment and educational titles. The
backpack CD-ROM drive also allows users to access massive amounts of
research and/or information within seconds. The sturdy and compact design
makes it easy to transport. The drive weight is four pounds.
