"Customers looking for the best buy in a color notebook-retail as well as

high-quality system technology previously found only in higher-priced

Systems Group.

Priced to Please

The NEC Versa 2000D with a 10.4" enhanced DSTN screen supports 256 colors
at 640 x 480 and is entry priced at $1,999. This display supports 256
colors at 640 x 480 and has been enhanced to provide a faster screen
refresh rate, meaning that the user gets quick cursor response rather than
the disappearing cursor found on other passive-matrix color notebooks.

Value-conscious consumers will want to consider the active-matrix TFT NEC
Versa 2000C models priced at just $2,599 and $2,799. Equipped with
easy-on-the-eyes 9.5" displays, they support 65,536 brilliant colors at
640 x 480 resolution and offer a wide viewing angle, ideal for
presentations.

Value-Added Notebooks

Even more significant than price, the NEC Versa 2000 Series offers features
usually found only in more costly notebooks.

The lithium ion (LiION) battery, for example, offers major advantages over
nickel metal hydride (NiMH) or nickel cadmium (NiCAD) batteries: It
provides more power for its weight, runs a notebook longer and can be
charged more times. Battery life is up to five hours, depending on system
configuration and usage.

The TFT NEC Versa 2000C is one of the few notebooks to come with an
internal 14.4Kbps data/fax modem. Combined with the pre-installed
communications software, the modem allows the mobile computer user to
start sending and receiving faxes or accessing e-mail right away after
simply snapping a phone cord into the RJ-11 jack on the notebook. Having
an internal modem means that the two PC Card slots are free for other
uses. An optional Internal Modem Upgrade is easily installed by the user
on the DSTN NEC Versa 2000D.

$350 in Popular Software Packages Pre-Installed

Both the TFT and DSTN NEC Versa 2000 systems are hot loaded with
communications software, including FaxWorks 3.01M, Internet access through
NetCruiser Plus and free trials on leading on-line service providers
(PRODIGY, CompuServe and America Online).

Every NEC Versa 2000 comes with MS-DOS and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and
is engineered to support Windows 95 when it becomes available. NEC
believes end-users will see numerous benefits with Windows 95. With a new
intuitive user interface, users will find the 32-bit performance,
integrated networking capabilities, faster printing and increased
reliability offer significant reasons to upgrade their operating system.
Windows 95 will also continue to provide compatibility with existing
MS-DOS and Windows-based applications.

In addition to all of the above, every NEC Versa 2000 comes pre-installed
with these useful software programs: Quicken Special Edition, Calendar
Creator Plus, Lotus Organizer, PowerAlbum, Taxi and the Official Airline
Guide.

Easy to Upgrade

The NEC Versa 2000 has been designed to adapt to the demands of users and
their businesses, no matter what the size. Small business owners as well
as corporate road warriors will find this notebook easy to upgrade and
expand.

Configured with an IntelDX4 75MHz processor, the NEC Versa 2000 can run
demanding business applications. All models include an integrated math
coprocessor for heavy-duty number crunching at high speeds.

The NEC Versa 2000 Series comes with either 4MB or 8MB standard memory and
is easily upgradeable, up to 36MB or 40MB, respectively, ensuring the
capabilities to run both current and future software. The standard hard
disk drive, 350MB (350 million bytes) or 540MB (540 million bytes), is
also user upgradeable, up to 720MB (720 million bytes) or larger as
available.

The two PC Card slots on the NEC Versa 2000 add to its functionality by
offering access to an array of options, including network interface cards,
SCSI interface cards, wireless communication devices and cellular-capable
modems.

Design Features Ensure Comfortable Use

The sleek NEC Versa 2000 has an entirely new chassis design, created to
ensure comfort and ease of use. Its features help to make the buyer feel
comfortable with this notebook within the first moments of a product
review.

The recessed, full-sized keyboard has a sculpted palm rest and features the
VersaGlide touch-pad pointing device with double-click capabilities. The
screen on the NEC Versa 2000 has up-front controls for brightness and
contrast. "Feet" on the bottom of the unit slant the keyboard towards the
user. LED indicators are readily visible to provide users with a variety
of system information at a glance.

The system is easy to understand from the time the power is switched on,
providing a positive out-of-box experience. In fact, the NEC Versa 2000
doesn't even come in a box but in a sturdy injection-molded plastic
briefcase (beginning August 1995) that has been custom designed to safely
carry the notebook.

The NEC Versa 2000 has an on-line welcome and an invitation to take an
on-line system tour. The on-line guides are illustrated and animated, a
pleasure to use and contribute to the system's mobility.

Desktop Expansion

Users have a choice of ways to make the NEC Versa 2000 the basis of their
office system. Every model is equipped with a full array of ports for
plugging in an external monitor, printer and keyboard or mouse. A phone
jack is included on TFT NEC Versa 2000C models as part of the built-in
modem.

The optional Versa MediaDock 2000 turns the NEC Versa 2000 into a
multimedia system. Features include an internal quad-speed CD-ROM, power
amp and speakers, a stereo line in/out and microphone in and headphone out
jacks, compliance with Sound Blaster and MPC2 standards, MIDI (musical
instrument digital interface) device support, battery charging during
system use, full port replication, plus a game port for a joystick.

The cost-effective Versa MiniDock 2000 option provides a one-touch
connection to all peripheral resources-printer, monitor, mouse and
keyboard-and also gives users an additional PS/2 port and two extra slots
for one Type II and one Type III PC Cards.
