Nikon Electronic Imaging Unveils SuperCoolscan

High Performance Compact Scanner Offers Speed with Accuracy

New York, NY, June 20, 1995 -- Nikon Electronic Imaging is demonstrating a
new addition to its award winning family of scanners: the LS-1000
SuperCoolscan 35mm Film Scanner at PC Expo. This new scanner is a high
speed, 35mm desktop scanner that joins Nikon's already popular LS-10
Coolscan and AX-1200 Scantouch Flatbed Scanner, along with another newly
introduced scanner, the LS-4500AF Multi-Format Film Scanner. Both scanners
were introduced at a press conference on June 15, 1995, at a press
conference at the famous Tavern on The Green, here in New York City.

SuperCoolscan embraces the LS-10 Coolscan's superb image quality, adding
exceptional speed, 12 bit A/D conversion preserving a wide dynamic range,
auto focus and an optional Auto Slide Feeder -- the SF-100 -- for
individuals requiring high quantity scanning capabilities.

"Customers who require high speed scanning capability should not have to
compromise the accuracy of their scans," said Douglas E. Howe, Nikon
Electronic Imaging's General Manager at the press luncheon. "SuperCoolscan
was designed to answer users' needs for exceptional speed and
uncompromising accuracy and, at the same time, extend the user's options
in price and capability," continued Howe, who played upon the "Speed
without accuracy is nothing!" slogan that was the theme of the
introduction.

John Harcourt, Manager of Strategic Marketing, explained the impetus for
developing the product, how it answers customers' needs, and, demonstrated
its high quality and spectacular performance. In addition, Harcourt
proudly showed the new SF-100 Autofeeder, proclaiming its unique design
and simplicity of operation.

SuperCoolscan is capable of 40 second scan times for resolutions of
2592x3888 pixels. Advanced LED illumination yields ultra-fast CCD
integration, enhancing speed, reliability and color accuracy. Solid state
illumination assures exceptionally low power consumption and low heat
generation. Nikon's special optics preserve definition and minimize
geometric distortion. High performance DSPs deliver the fastest data
throughput at 3 Megabytes per second. SuperCoolscan is slated for shipment
in mid summer '95.

The SF-100 is an optional high speed Auto Slide Feeder which holds up to 50
mounted slides, enabling unattended operation and increased productivity.
It conveniently mounts on the front of the LS-1000 SuperCoolscan, making
connecting cables for the feeder unnecessary.
The suggested list price of the LS-1000 Coolscan is $2,695, while the
SF-100 Autofeeder is $685.

Nikon has also introduced its new line of scanner software -- Nikon Scan --
which comes bundled with SuperCoolscan. Nikon Scan is a completely
re-architected Photoshop plug-in for MAC OS and TWAIN source for Windows
users. The new driver will run with any Photoshop or TWAIN-compatible
image editing software or stand-alone using Nikon Control, an image
archiving application, that enables unattended, high speed batch scanning
when used in conjunction with the optional SF-100 Auto Slide Feeder.

Nikon Electronic Imaging is a leader in open systems connectivity solutions
designed for image management, from capture and transmission -- through
processing, storage and retrieval -- to output and distribution, in
stand-alone and networked environments.

In addition to the new SuperCoolscan, with optional SF-100 Auto Slide
Feeder, Nikon Electronic Imaging's product line includes the E2 and E2s
Digital Still Camera Systems; the multi-award winning LS-10 Coolscan; the
new LS-4500AF Multi-Format Scanner; the
LS-3510AF Film Scanner with optional Autofeeder; the AX-1200 Scantouch
Flatbed Scanner with optional Transparency Adapter; the NP-10 Coolprint
Full Color Digital Printer; and a complete line of ENG/EFP TV-Nikkor
lenses and converters.
