Optus Software ports Windows NT version of its award-winning FACSys fax
server to IBM PowerPC platform

Provides users with high performance fax communications gateway for
multivendor network environments

June 19, 1995 -- Optus Software announced that it has ported its FACSys Fax
Messaging Gateway v4.0 for Microsoft Windows NT to IBM's PowerPC hardware
platform. Optus is the first ISV to provide NT-based network fax services
on the PowerPC.

FACSys Fax Messaging Gateway for Microsoft Windows NT provides robust,
scalable fax capabilities for multivendor internetworks, including:

* sending and receiving faxes from user PCs
* support for a broad range of popular fax modems
* complete inbound routing options
* flexible administration under native NT services
* Named Pipes interface for NetWare support

Optus has designed FACSys to be accessible through a variety of programming
interfaces so that users can easily build automated and/or event-driven
fax messaging routines.

"Running Windows NT applications on the IBM PowerPC platform gives users
tremendous performance and scalability, since it puts Microsoft's 32-bit
multiprocessing OS onto a very powerful hardware engine," said Joseph
Avellino, president of Optus. "For companies with large-scale faxing
requirements, that combination will be a major plus."

"Scalable, enterprise resources such as Optus Software's FACSys are ideal
applications for Windows NT on the PowerPC," said Gary Griffiths, IBM's
director of business development for the PowerPC line. "Optus Software's
port of FACSys indicates that the market can and will find many uses for
Windows NT on the PowerPC -- not only for fileservers and databases, but
also for specialized processing-intensive applications such as fax and
network communications."

The IBM Personal Computer Power Series family of personal systems delivers
superior performance to meet the increasing demands of client/server
environments. Based on an industry-standard platform, the systems take
advantage of the performance of the PowerPC microprocessor to provide an
open environment capable of running advanced applications on a variety of
32-bit operating systems.

Optus Software (Somerset, NJ) has been integrating fax communications into
data networks since 1987. It introduced FACSys into the LAN marketplace in
1990. FACSys has been named LAN Magazine's Product of the Year for three
consecutive years, and has won numerous other awards both in the US and
overseas. Optus can be reached at 908-271-9568.
