PANASONIC INTRODUCES 1200-DPI-CLASS LASER PRINTER WITH PCL 5e EMULATION

KX-P6600 joins the 6000 Series of laser printers using proprietary engine

New York, NY (June 20, 1995) -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company
(PCSC), a division of Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, today
introduced the KX-P6600, a 6 page-per-minute, PCL5e compatible laser
printer with 2400 x 600 dpi when using Panasonic's Optimum Resolution
Technology. The new printer will be on display at PC Expo, Booth #3160.

The KX-P6600 joins a family of Panasonic laser printers employing the
company's new proprietary engine in a minitower design. With PCL 5e
emulation, the KX-P6600 offers a choice of 45 built-in scalable fonts
including 35 Intellifonts and 10 Windows TrueType fonts, as well as 1
bitmap font. Its Memory Enhancement Technology compresses data and doubles
the printer's memory, enabling the unit to efficiently print documents
with intense graphics. To achieve its 1200-dpi class, the KX-P6600 uses
Optimum Resolution Technology (ORT) which controls the size of selected
dots and smooths line art and text.

"The KX-P6600's excellent price/performance ratio is ideal for use in
government, educational and institutional facilities. It's easy to use and
the print quality is extremely crisp," said Timothy J. Curran, vice
president and group general manager of Panasonic's Computer Products
Group. "In addition, with PCL Se compatibility, the KX-P6600 is attractive
to bid markets because HP compatibility plays a major role in their
purchasing decisions."

Instead of bothering with clumsy panel buttons to change printer settings,
users can access the printer through the PC. The KX-P6600 comes bundled
with "EZ Set Screen for DOS" software, consisting of three applications:
"Script Consultant" explains how to solve problems as a user's manual
would; "Control Panel" allows the user to view and change printer settings
right on screen; and "Status Display" automatically displays messages from
the printer to the computer when an error occurs.

In addition, the KX-P6600 comes with a Windows driver that uses a tabular
format for modifying printer settings. Set up as a series of folders with
tabs labeled "Paper", "Graphics", and "Options", users merely click on the
tabs to access options such as: paper size, resolution, density, ORT mode,
and toner saver. The "Alert" tab allows the user to add an audible warning
whenever a printing problem occurs.

The new printer comes with a multipurpose paper tray that accepts up to 100
sheets of 20-pound paper, 10 envelopes, 30 labels or 30 transparencies. It
uses face-down collated paper ejection with a 50-page capacity. Its 2MB
standard memory is expandable to 18MB using SIMM technology.

Special environmental features conserve energy and toner. The KX-P6600
processing unit's unique all-in-one cartridge allows users to refill toner
using a special, no-spill system, and to use the drum for its complete
life cycle rather than discard it when the toner section is empty. Power
Save reduces power usage by slipping into the sleep mode if data is not
received within 15 minutes, and its toner saver mode reduces the cost of
printing by as much as 50 percent by depositing less toner on the page and
emulating a draft mode.

The KX-P6600 is compatible with DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups
and Windows '95.

Carrying a suggested retail price of $999, the KX-P6600 includes a limited
one-year, hassle-free exchange warranty, whereby the user can call a
Panasonic technician at 1-800-222-0584 if a problem occurs. Upon diagnosis
of a problem covered by warranty, a replacement unit is shipped within one
business day, and the original printer is picked up a few days later. The
KX-P6600 is 11.3" H x 5.2" W x 14.9" D and weighs only 14.4 pounds. It
will be available to consumers in October.
