SAMSUNG ADDS TWO NEW GIGABYTE HARD DISK DRIVES TO ITS HIGH-PERFORMANCE
DISKMASTER "P" SERIES

New 1. 2GB and 1.08GB Drives Meet Increased Storage Demands of Next
Generation PCs

June 20, 1995 -- RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Samsung Electronics America (SEA)
has expanded its DiskMaster "P" series of high performance hard disk
drives with two new models featuring formatted capacities of over one
gigabyte (GB). The new products will be introduced at Samsung's booth
(#4038) during PC EXPO in New York, June 20-22.

The new DiskMaster "P" drives include the 1.2GB model PLS-31274A/S and the
1.08GB model PLS-31084A/S. The "P" series drives have been designed to
meet the increased performance requirements needed to run Windows 95 and
other 32-bit applications on workstations, networks and multimedia PCs.

According to Jeff Edelstein, Samsung's Senior Marketing Manager for Storage
Products, "The addition of these two new gigabyte-class hard disk drives
rounds out the "P" series and provides a full line of storage solutions to
our customers. We believe we're offering these high-performance drives at
the Right time to meet the growing storage demands of the desktop
market."

The PLS-31084A is Samsung's first drive to incorporate Partial Response
Maximum Likelihood (PRML) read channel technology. Compared with
conventual peak detection technology, PRML allows higher areal density by
providing efficient analog to digital data conversion.

The "P" series drives are available with either an enhanced IDE or fast
SCSI-2 interface and are compliant with enhanced IDE and fast ATA
specifications. They feature embedded servo technology to ensure smooth
multimedia audio and video performance and utilize Samsung's unique
segmented CACHE Management System which offers a large 256Kb storage
buffer with read look-ahead and write stacking capabilities.

The 3.5" PLS-31274A has a formatted storage capacity of 1.27GB and comes in
a low profile 1" high form-factor. Its architecture consists of three
platters, six data surfaces and six read/write heads. The 3.5" PLS-31084A
offers a formatted capacity of 1.08GB and its architecture includes two
platters, four data surfaces and four read/write heads. Both "P" series
drives have an average seek time of 11 milliseconds (ms) and are
engineered to run at a rotational speed of 4,500 RPM.

The two new DiskMaster "P" series drives join the PLS-30854 (850MB) hard
disk drive introduced this past spring. All drives in the DiskMaster "P"
series incorporate a built-in advanced double burst ECC error detection
and correction capability which provides "On The Fly" correction with no
degradation in performance.

The "P" Series drives are also designed with an automatic power-down
feature which is compatible with "Green PCs." They have an MTBF rating of
300,000 hours and come with a three-year warranty. Samsung's "P" series
hard disk drives are currently shipping to major OEMs and distributors.
