NEW SUN NETRA INTERNET SERVER OFFERS EASY INTERNET ACCESS AND WEB SERVER
CAPABILITIES

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--May 22, 1995--Helping to drive the adoption of the
Internet and extend its benefits to an even broader range of users, Sun
Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) today introduced the new Netra
Internet Server with unmatched features that enable users to access World
Wide Web (Web) sites readily and establish a business presence easily on
the Internet. Building on the success of the original Netra Internet
Server, new features available with the system include Web server
software, easy connectivity for Netware clients, a new graphical system
administration tool for server management from any desktop and server
security enhancements -- bundled in a single, easy-to-install integrated
system.

Aimed at serving the burgeoning commercial Internet market, the Netra
Internet Server provides pre-configured hardware and software necessary to
connect PC, Macintosh and UNIX workstation local-area networks (LANs) to
the Internet. The Netra Internet Server comes with a high-bandwidth
networking connectivity solution, the Solaris operating environment and
Internet enabling software installed. The system has been enhanced to
include Web server capabilities, which SMCC provides by bundling
NCSA-based Web server software or Netscape Communications Server for
Solaris software with every Netra Internet Server. Web server capabilities
enable businesses to publish information on the Internet for customers,
prospects and partners. All Netra hardware and software, including the
Netscape Communications software, is supported by SunService, the leading
UNIX service provider.

In addition to providing TCP/IP support, the Netra Internet Server makes it
easier and more cost-effective for Netware LANs to take advantage of the
Internet. With optional IPX gateway software, Netra is the first server to
provide scalable Internet access to Netware clients without having to run
both TCP/IP and IPX/SPX on each client, minimizing administration burden
and expense.

The new graphical user interface (GUI) configuration and administration
tools, based on the graphical hypertext markup language (HTML), allow the
Netra Internet Server to be managed easily from any desktop with minimal
UNIX experience. System installation can be completed in less than 30
minutes with the Netra Administration Tool. Once installed, adding
additional users, hardware or software is simple, using the "point and
click" administration tool.

Preinstalled basic security helps protect the server from unauthorized
access. Default security filters disable telnet, remote login and fpt
access to the server. To protect the entire LAN, an advanced security
software product, Solstice FireWall-1, is an option.

"Sun is offering a comprehensive set of products and services that enable
businesses to exploit the Internet for competitive advantage," said Carl
Stolle, SMCC's director of server marketing. "Internet servers from other
vendors are much more difficult to install and manage and require
substantial investments in administration expertise. The Netra Internet
Server is the practical choice for businesses because it is the only Web
server that integrates with Netware LANs and is easily managed without
UNIX administration expertise."

Industry reviews substantiate the ease of use of the Netra Internet Server.
"Setting up the server was no more difficult than setting up a PC," said a
recent review in Computer Reseller News (May 15, 1995). "The Sun Netra was
a pleasure to work with."

Since its introduction in September 1994, the Netra Internet Server has
been adopted by customers in a broad range of industries, including IGA
Superstores, the London Daily Telegraph and St. Luke's Hospital, as well
as Internet services providers such as Netcom, PSInet and Pacific Bell --
adding to Sun's overall Internet leadership. According to a 1994 survey
conducted by the Internet Society, 56 percent of all servers on the
Internet are made by Sun.

Price and Availability

Three models of the Netra Internet Server are available. The Netra
workgroup server comes with a 85 MHz MicroSPACE-II CPU, 16-megabytes of
memory and 1.05-gigabytes of storage at a cost of $5,999 (U.S. suggested
list) or with 110 MHz microSPARC-II CPU, 32-megabytes of memory and
1.05-gigabytes of storage at a cost of $8,499 (U.S. suggested list). The
Netra high-performance departmental server is priced at $15,499 (U.S.
suggested list) and comes with 75 MHz SuperSPACE-II CPU, 32-megabytes of
memory, 1.05 gigabytes of storage and is expandable to up to two
processors. The new Netra Internet Servers will be available in June. The
IPX gateway software will be available in Q3CY95. For a limited time only,
SMCC is offering a free software upgrade to current Netra customers. The
upgrade includes NCSA Web server software. The Netra product line is sold
through more than 600 Sun Netra resellers worldwide.
