theta group announces dtF Database Toolkit for OpenDoc

NEW YORK - at PC Expo--June 20, 1995 -- theta group announced today that it
is participating in an OpenDoc Developer's Pavilion at PC Expo in NYC from
June 20 - 22, 1995. The company is demonstrating an early OpenDoc version
of its dtF Database Toolkit, a database front-ending toolkit for
consultants, VARs and end-users. The dtF Database Toolkit 1.0 is being
developed in a joint effort by dtF Americas and theta group and is
expected to ship later this year.

The dtF Database Toolkit will enable end-users to create documents
containing data from several relational databases in a simple, yet
flexible and straightforward fashion by using standard OpenDoc techniques
such as linking and drag and drop. The different parts within the dtF
Database Toolkit can be easily integrated with any third-party parts and
containers.

OpenDoc Support

"The importance of OpenDoc technology cannot be emphasized enough," said
Hans Martin Kern, theta group's VP, product management and engineering.
"OpenDoc enables developers to deliver new kinds of solutions and tools to
the end-user, with a level of integration with other products that was not
previously possible. dtF is especially suitable for use within the OpenDoc
environment and we intend to extend our technological leadership in this
area even more with the dtF Database Toolkit. We expect OpenDoc technology
and relational database integration to have a tremendous impact on how
end-users are able to integrate corporate data in their working
environment/documents."

According to Brenda DeVries, CEO of dtF Americas, "the OpenDoc technology
will allow dtF to create, for the first time, very focused end-user
products by concentrating on dtFs technological strengths. The dtF
Database Toolkit with OpenDoc provides a seamless integration of
stand-alone and client/server SQL database access."

DeVries adds that, "Relational data will be a first-class citizen in the
OpenDoc world, providing the users with live, active documents capable of
actively querying data from relational database systems."

End-User Impact

By providing seamless integration of different parts and data types within
a single document, OpenDoc allows relational data to fit naturally into
any document. The dtF Database Toolkit empowers users to focus on the task
of creating reports, entry and output forms rather than forcing them to
learn advanced tools to do simple queries as in traditional applications.
OpenDoc encourages the development of highly specialized, but truly open
and interactive components such as the dtF Database Toolkit.

The dtF Database Toolkit uses the dtF relational database system for local
data storage. The dtF relational database system provides a premier choice
for developers who want to create high-powered, database-centered
applications with no performance tradeoffs. It features native PowerPC,
SQL, binary large objects, full transaction control, error recovery,
client/server architecture and multi-platform support. The dtF relational
database system allows a developer to use his favorite tools to provide
the best user interface possible including HyperCard, SuperCard, Smalltalk
Agents, DataScript/AppleScript, Prograph CPX, MacApp, TCL, Powerplant etc.
dtF is fully integrated with AppleScript through DataScript for dtF.
