Wolfram Research Adds Time Series Pack to the Mathematica Applications
Library

April 17, 1995 -- CHAMPAIGN, Illinois--Wolfram Research, Inc. today
announced the release of the Time Series Pack, the latest addition to its
flourishing Mathematica Applications Library.

The Time Series Pack is a collection of ready-to-use algorithms designed
for the analysis of time-dependent data. Using the power of Mathematica,
the pack handles both univariate and multivariate time series, letting
users explore stationary and non-stationary models, estimate model
parameters, forecast, and perform spectral analysis. Among the features of
the pack is the ability to perform symbolic computations of a variety of
model properties, enabling the user to explore behaviors of different
models.

"Researchers, scientists, economists, financial analysts, engineers, and
statisticians can now call upon the power of Mathematica to analyze
ever-increasing amounts of time-dependent data," explains Prem Chawla,
chief operating officer, Wolfram Research. ' The Time Series Pack extends
the data analysis capabilities of Mathematica."

By plotting data over time, users can now easily recognize correlation
patterns among data elements. The Time Series Pack also includes
specialized tools which let users spot trends, seasonality, and
nonstationary effects. Also, built-in functions in the Pack make it easy
to do linear filtering, simple exponential smoothing, differencing, moving
averages and more.

Written in Mathematica's high-level programming language, the Time Series
Pack is distributed in source code form so that it is easy not only to see
how functions work, but also to modify or enhance them to suit individual
needs. In addition, Mathematica provides tools for creating
publication-quality PostScript two- and three-dimensional graphics,
including function, data, contour, and density plots. Another convenient
feature is the ability to interactively exchange data from other programs
and applications using MathLink, Mathematica's communication standard.

The Mathematica Applications Library

The Time Series Pack is part of Wolfram Research's growing Mathematica
Applications Library which consists of Mathematica-based material from
Wolfram Research as well as applications created by independent
Mathematica developers. A variety of Mathematica packs in areas such as
electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optical design,
statistics, finance and more is designed to extend Mathematica, helping
technical professionals apply the system quickly and efficiently to solve
problems in their area of interest.

Price and Availability

The Time Series Pack is available for Microsoft Windows, Windows NT,
Macintosh, Power Macintosh, Sun SPARC Solaris, Silicon Graphics,
Hewlett-Packard 700 Series, DEC MIPS, OSF/1 AXP, IBM RISC System/6000, and
NEXTSTEP. Priced at $195, the Time Series Pack includes a Reference and
User's Guide, which provides clear and concise examples that demonstrate
how Mathematica is used in data transformation and time series modeling.
Mathematica Version 2.2 is required to make full use of the materials in
the Time Series Pack. The Time Series Pack is available directly through
Wolfram Research and resellers worldwide. To order in the U.S., call
