WOLLONGONG ANNOUNCES EMISSARY -- A NEW BREED OF SOFTWARE FOR ACCESSING ALL
THE INTERNET

Emissary Delivers Unprecedented Usability and Transparent Access to the
Internet for Home and Corporate Users

PALO ALTO, CA, June 5, 1995--Wollongong, a technology leader in
TCP/IP-based internetworking, today announced a new family of Internet
access applications called Emissary. Emissary's ease-of-use and
transparent access represent a major breakthrough in Internet
operability.

Emissary is a new family of Internet software applications that combine a
range of Internet facilities such as Web browsing, mail, news reading,
file retrieval, and interactive access into a single, integrated Windows
application. Previously, Internet users were forced to buy separate
applications with separate user interfaces to utilize select Internet
resources.

"With Emissary, users can surf the net, read news, send and receive mail,
and manage files--all from a single-user interface very similar to Windows
File Manager," explains Robert Lawton, Wollongong's vice president of
marketing. "Best of all, it automatically and transparently figures out
the appropriate file formats, protocols, and applications. Emissary is
like an intelligent partner that deals with the Internet complexity so
users aren't forced to."

Emissary intelligently negotiates standard Internet protocols from one
application, in one window, from one interface. Wollongong's breakthrough
client object linking technology (COLT) architecture dynamically
interprets and manages data formats and protocols to make using all
Internet resources as seamless and familiar. All Internet documents are
displayed through a hypertext markup language (HTML) editor, bringing
multimedia composition and the display power of the World Wide Web to
mail, news groups, and every other corner of the Internet corporate
network. For example, an Emissary user can drag and drop a Web page
directly into a mail message, edit it, and forward it to others.

Available for Windows users with pricing starting at a $99 suggested list
price, Emissary is the first of a new breed of Internet tools for "the
rest of us."

Emissary Meets User Requirements

Emissary solves two problems that Internet users have been struggling with
for years -complexity and inefficiency. Current tools require users to
manipulate multiple applications and various protocols in order to do
simple tasks, such as viewing an image that is contained in a mail message
or a news item. Yet to meet the real needs of users and of corporations,
Internet access applications must fulfill six major requirements:

* Encompass all Internet resources in a single, integrated Windows
application. With Emissary, users can access the full power of the
Internet and corporate intranets, enabling them to send and receive mail,
copy files, access remote applications, read news, and browse the World
Wide Web from a single application and a single-user interface.

* Make the Internet transparent. Emissary deals with the underlying
protocols and formats automatically and "under the hood," permitting users
to work with the same, familiar operations used when working with desktop
resources. Copy and move information using drag and drop; navigate files
using familiar metaphors; and view information anywhere on the Net, or
your local system or network, simply by clicking.

* Employ familiar Windows paradigms to perform tasks. Emissary extends the
File Manager concept to network resources. Its graphical user interface
looks and operates just like the familiar Windows File Manager, so Windows
users can begin accessing the Internet with little or no training.

* Tight integration with Windows. Emissary offers the same level of
integration and interoperability between network access and the Windows
environment that users enjoy between desktop applications. Users can
simply drag and drop images, text, links, or other information between
Emissary and Windows desktop applications. This high level of integration
is made possible by Emissary's advanced architecture and OLE 2.0
compliance.

* Extensible architecture. Emissary's innovative, object-oriented
architecture ensures that users can take advantage of evolving network
capabilities without the disruption and costs associated with replacing
software access tools. It also ensures that custom capabilities can be
readily added.

Integrated, industrial-strength corporate "intranet" access. Corporate
users can access their internal network information and services from the
same user interface as they access the Internet.

The Emissary Family

Unlike current Internet access applications that allow only limited
facilities such as Web browsing, Wollongong's Emissary family of products
include a full complement of integrated Internet access facilities such as
mail, news, file management (both local and remote), Web browsing, and
interactive (telnet, VT100, etc.,) support, which are accessible in a
single Windows application. Emissary is targeted at existing users of Web
browsers. For Fortune 1000 corporate users, the entire Internet access
facilities listed above plus LAN-based connectivity is included in Desktop
Emissary for a suggested list price of $199. Future products will add new
functionality to the Emissary extensible framework. Enhancements will
include simplified Internet service provider (ISP) connections and access
to corporate legacy data.

Extensible, Object-Oriented Architecture

Emissary is the first Internet access application to be built on an
extensible, object-oriented architecture. At the heart of this
architecture is COLT, which enables the tight integration of the Emissary
client objects and allows them to interoperate with each other as well as
with the user shell and shared services objects. COLT's modular design
allows an unlimited variety of add-on "objects" designed by Wollongong and
others for new or specific tasks such as text analysis, smart agenting,
and security.

According to David Weinstein, general manager of Wollongong's Advanced
Application Center, "COLT looks at all incoming and outgoing information
and intelligently figures out which objects should act on the data. It
deals with all the underlying Internet protocols and file formats
automatically, so users don't have to."

COLT provides a well-defined, open API that allows components to be
"snapped in" easily. New components can take advantage of dozens of
existing shared services provided by Emissary. New services can be added
or existing ones updated. As a result, developers don't have to " reinvent
the wheel" each time they add a new capability. They can instead
concentrate on adding value.

Emissary Targets

Emissary addresses the needs of corporations whose users need to access not
only the Internet but also TCP/IP-based enterprise networks. These
intranets provide a growing number of services that parallel those
available on the Internet including electronic mail, file sharing,
information dissemination and the ability to run applications remotely.
Many corporations have even implemented the private network equivalent of
Web sites to make corporate information readily accessible.

Emissary squarely addresses the needs of seasoned Internet users, who are
looking for a solution that lets them get their tasks done faster. For
casual surfers who currently tap only a fraction of the Internet
resources, Emissary brings all those other resources to their fingertips
in one, integrated application. And for current non-users of the Internet,
Emissary provides an easy, unintimidating solution that makes Internet
access transparent and familiar.

Distribution, Pricing, and Availability

Wollongong will distribute its product through a combination of direct
sales and traditional distribution channels. The company is committed to
the electronic delivery of its software and support to users who prefer to
purchase software on-line. Wollongong will continue to deliver software
through its on-line resources.

The company is initially releasing two Emissary products - Emissary and
Desktop Emissary. The products are currently in limited beta; with
widespread beta, scheduled for late June. General availability is planned
for July 1995. Both products provide comprehensive Internet access
facilities from Windows platforms. Desktop Emissary includes Wollongong's
high performance TCP/IP stack, whereas Emissary is intended for current
WEB browser users, who are already TCP/IP enabled. Fully WINSOCK
API-compliant, Emissary runs with any WINSOCK-compliant TCP/IP stack.
