PCMCIA NICs First of Accton RedBox Products for NetWare

New Laptop Connectivity Cards Incorporate Universal NetWare Client for
Installation Simplicity

February 15, 1994 -- BOSTON--At Networks Expo '94 Boston today, Accton
Technology Corporation introduced the first NetWare-specific products to
come from the company's new RedBox division, the NET 2000 PCMCIA Series.
The PCMCIA laptop LAN adapter cards will plug-and-play with NetWare
workgroup environments, are fully NE2000 compatible, and they incorporate
Novell's new Universal NetWare Client. Furthermore, these cards have been
tested to be 30 percent faster under NetWare than PCMCIA adapters that
were not optimized for NetWare.

There are two PCMCIA adapters in the NET 2000 series. The RedBox NET 2000T
PCMCIA is a 10BASE-T adapter for twisted-pair networking environments. The
RedBox NET 2000CT PCMCIA has auto media sensing for both 10BASE-T (RJ-45)
and 10BASE-2 (BNC) connectors. Both adapters conform to the Personal
Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) V2.0
specifications for Type II or Type III, and can be easily installed using
Accton's 1Step installation software.

RedBox Products Are Ready for NetWare

Accton's newly formed RedBox Division is devoted to developing connectivity
products optimized for NetWare. Both NET 2000 PCMCIA adapters feature the
industry-standard NE2000 architecture and incorporate the Novell Universal
NetWare Client. This Novell software for DOS and Windows PC workstations
enables users to connect to any NetWare network, including NetWare 2, 3, 4
and Personal NetWare.

The Universal NetWare Client is based on Virtual Loadable Modules (VLMs)
first implemented in the NetWare 4 Requester architecture, which replaces
the old Monolithic NETX shell. NetWare Client software also comes with a
full suite of Windows-based NetWare services that manage NetWare resources
directly from their workstations. NetWare links are directly incorporated
into Windows File Manager, Print Manager, and Control Panel. The Universal
NetWare Client also features Optimized Memory Management with memory
swapping, enhanced data transport services using packet burst and Large
Internet Packet (LIP) protocols, and a Simple Network Management Protocol
(SNMP) client.

"These PCMCIA adapters are the perfect products to kick off our new RedBox
product line," said Marshall Behling, Director of Marketing for Accton.
"VARs and integrators can use these laptop LAN adapters in any NetWare
environment, without having to worry about operating system compatibility
or driver support; an important advantage when you are talking about
portable workstations."

The new RedBox adapters will support any laptop or notebook computer with
Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Cirrus, and DataBook-based PCMCIA controllers. In
addition to the Universal NetWare Client, both PCMCIA adapters come with
NDIS drivers to support Microsoft Lan Manager, Windows for Workgroups, and
IBM LAN Server, Digital PATHWORKS, Banyan VINES, and Wollongong's Pathway
Access, and Packet Drivers to support FTP, TCP/IP, and NCSA Telnet. Each
adapter has a 16-bit bus and 16-Kbyte RAM buffer, with an additional 128
Kbytes of FLASH memory.

The RedBox NET 2000T PCMCIA will carry a list price of $199. The RedBox NET
2000CT PCMCIA will retail for $299. Both adapters are expected to ship
later this month.
