SYBASE HOSTS FIRST TECHNICAL CONFERENCE FOR THIRD-PARTY PARTNERS

Technology Transfer Sessions Empower VARS, Systems Integrators, and ISVs to
Deliver Best-in-Class Solutions

EMERYVILLE, CA, February 2, 1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced the first Open Solutions Partner
Technical Conference being held this week, February 2-4, at the Fairmont
Hotel in San Francisco, CA. The conference is designed to provide Sybase
Open Solutions Partners, which include independent software vendors
(ISVs), systems integrators, and value added resellers (VARs), with the
technical expertise required to optimize their solutions on the SYBASE
architecture. More than 150 Open Solutions Partners are expected to attend
the conference, which will feature presentations by Sybase executives Dr.
Robert Epstein, executive vice president; Mark Pine, vice president of the
server and connectivity group; and Michael Dubrall, vice president of
channels development.

"Providing our Open Solutions Partners with the technical expertise
required to build applications optimized for SYBASE is essential to our
overall goal of offering customers best-in-class solutions," said Michael
Dubrall, vice president of channels development. "Because Sybase is not in
the applications business, we rely on our partners to develop applications
that take advantage of the differentiated features and functionality of
Sybase's products. Therefore, technology transfer is the primary goal of
the conference."

The conference offers five specific topical tracks: servers, systems
management, connectivity, parallel and distributed systems, and tools
technology. Each track has a component that addresses building solutions
on Sybase's System 10 product family, which was created specifically to
meet the needs of enterprisewide, client/server computing.

Avalon Software, a developer of client/server applications for global
manufacturing companies and a Sybase VAR partner since 1989, will send
several representatives to the conference. "Because we use the entire
suite of Sybase products, gaining the breadth of technical knowledge at
the conference will increase our ability to provide the mission-critical,
bet-your-business applications required by our customers," said Doug
Souza, vice president of development at Avalon."

The Open Solutions Program

Sybase views its Open Solutions alliances as playing an integral role in
bringing total client/server solutions to its customers. In 1993, the
company significantly expanded its Open Solutions Program to include new,
dedicated resources in technical, sales, and marketing areas.

The Open Solutions Program is built upon a solid foundation of third-party
relationships. It was founded in 1989 with independent software vendors
(ISVs) -typically tools vendors who develop SYBASE compatible software but
do not resell SYBASE products. In 1990, the program expanded to include
value added resellers (VARs)-- typically application developers who embed
SYBASE software in applications and resell these solutions to end users.
In 1993, a systems integrator program was added; Sybase systems
integrators typically resell SYBASE, adding value in network consulting,
custom software development, and hardware integration and support.
Currently, there are 350 ISVs, 320 VARs, and 100 systems integrators in
North America participating in the Open Solutions Program.
