FIRST EVER DIRECTORY OF "JUST PLAIN FOLKS" ON THE WORLD'S BIGGEST COMPUTER
NETWORK

As Millions Log On, IDG Books Announces Release of The 1994 Internet White
Pages

SAN MATEO, CA--(February 14, 1994)--With more than ten million users and a
current growth rate exceeding 10 percent a month, the Internet is the
largest computer network in the world. And now users of the Internet--just
plain PC users will be able to find each other in The 1994 Internet White
Pages, released by IDG Books Worldwide, publisher of the wildly popular
... For Dummies series of computer books.

"There's no simple way to look up the address of individuals on the
Internet, especially if you access the Internet via services like
CompuServe, America Online, or Prodigy--until now," said IDG Vice
President and Publisher Chris Williams. "Other books list available
services on the Internet, or help users navigate its vast reaches.

"But The 1994 Internet White Pages is the first printed directory of people
on the Internet," he continued. "It lists more than 100,000 individuals
known to be active users who frequently post messages on the network--with
their Internet addresses, of course. For Internet users, it's as
indispensable as the phone book."

The Internet is the world's largest and most mature computer network.
Originally built to link widely scattered U.S. government researchers, it
has grown into a loose but far-reaching conglomeration of bulletin boards,
electronic mail systems, and information resources linking individuals,
businesses, universities, and governments around the world. The network is
often cited as a kind of model for the so-called Information Superhighway
touted by U.S. Vice President Al Gore.

The 1994 Internet White Pages is expected to be of great interest to the
two and half million current users of commercial on-line services
CompuServe, Prodigy, America Online, and Delphi, who all have access to
the Internet. The book will include coupons worth $100 in on-line access
to those services. In turn, the services plan to promote the book through
on-line announcements.

Includes a special "Hot Pages" section packed with addresses for
journalists, corporate celebrities, and opinion makers in additional to a
listing of Internet service providers around the world. To ensure that its
listings are current, The 1994 Internet White Pages will be updated
quarterly. Buyers will be entitled to one free update.

The 1994 Internet White Pages has been compiled by Seth Godin Productions,
a leading packager of reference books, including the best-selling 1994
Information Please Business Almanac and Desk Reference. Company president
Seth Godin wrote his first interactive computer game at the age of 16, and
has produced interactive novels with well-known authors Michael Crichton,
Ray Bradbury, and Arthur C. Clarke.

The 1994 Internet White Pages is IDG Books' second Internet-related
release. The Internet For Dummies, published last October, has held steady
on bestseller lists since November. A reference guide aimed at the growing
number of "non-technical" PC owners who are "going online" with the
Internet, The Internet For Dummies explains what the Internet is, how to
get on it and how to find one's way around it. The book includes
explanations and instructions for users of DOS-, Widows-, and UNIX-based
PCs as well as Apple Macintosh computers.
