Minnesota Department of Education and National Cristina Foundation Sign
Agreement for Statewide Technology Plan for Recycled Equipment

May 23, 1994, Greenwich, CT - The Minnesota Department of Education and the
National Cristina Foundation (NCF) have signed an agreement to work
together to recycle used and excess hardware and software, donated through
NCF, to programs serving people with disabilities and the economically
disadvantaged across Minnesota.

Toward achieving this goal, Northern States Power, the Minneapolis-based
utility company, will be assisting with the initiative to obtain donations
of used computer technology from Minnesota's business community so that
public and community agencies can benefit from the program. Northern
States Power Company has a long tradition of support for educational
programs. Bruce Palmer, Manager of their corporate contributions, states,
"The National Cristina Foundation provides a very simple and effective way
for NSP to extend the useful life of donated computers and software, while
providing meaningful opportunities for special students throughout
Minnesota." Mr. Palmer added, "We intend to continue this effort and look
forward to a long partnership with the National Cristina Foundation and
the Minnesota Department of Education."

Wayne Erickson, State Director of Special Education for the Minnesota
Department of Education is pleased that his division is coordinating the
computer hardware and software distribution program for pre-kindergarten
through graduation in education related facilities serving students who
are disabled or disadvantaged. "This effort will enable non-profit schools
and agencies to provide enrichment to their education and services with
the assistance of technology," said Erickson. "Students throughout
Minnesota will benefit from the partnership with the National Cristina
Foundation, the business community, and MDE."

The National Cristina Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in
Connecticut, has created a grassroots partnership of agencies and
organizations that provide education, rehabilitation and job training at
hundreds of locations in more than 40 states and five countries serving
tens of thousands of people.

Through a process that distributes used and excess hardware and software
donated from business and individuals, at no charge, to educational and
training programs by sharing technology solutions with others in the NCF
Network, NCF offers people with disabilities, at risk students and the
economically disadvantaged the opportunity to strive for new goals and
achievements.

"We are pleased," said Dr. Yvette Marrin, President of NCF, "that the NCF
process will foster the development of effective technology solutions in
Minnesota so that people in need can lead more independent and productive
lives. In line with NCFs objective that Machines you can write off. People
you can't., I'm especially delighted that one of the first recipients for
donated technology will be students in programs providing training to
young persons who are homeless."
